如何利用改错题完善英语语法知识结构

摘要:本文通过分析改错句练习,结合句子本身存在的语法错误,对相关语法知识点进行梳理总结,提出英语语法具有互相联系的特征,通过举例说明如何借助一个单句进行相关知识拓展,从而达到梳理复杂英语语法结构的目的。

1.前言

英语语法比较复杂,涉及到词法,句法等各个方面,又因为与汉语的语法有比较大的差异,导致学生在学习英语语法的过程中,学习效率不高。从小学阶段的时态开始,到中学阶段的被动语态,再到高中阶段的虚拟语气,学生们一直无法梳理庞大的英语语法结构。造成平时花费大量时间去研究语法理论,做大量的各种类型的练习题,可是在综合性的阅读或者写作测试中,还是没有办法十分准确地辨别和应用语法知识的现象。

2.如何利用改错题梳理语法知识

如果我们从正面的角度去学习英语语法而不得其法的时候,可以尝试着换一个角度来学习英语语法,比如利用改错题来检验自己的语法知识是否准确。比如改错句练习,Music is something that every person has his or her own specific opinion。我们先分析这个句子的语法结构,主句是Music is something,语法结构完整正确的;其次,something后面有一个由that引导的定语从句,在从句中every person是主语,has his or her own specific opinion是谓语动词短语,从句的语法结构也是完整的。

如果我们关于定语从句的语法知识足够清晰,会发现关系词that在从句中没有语法地位,这就是该句的语法错误所在。根据定语从句的语法要求,先行词应该在定语从句中充当一定的语法成分,也就是说something(由that代替)从内容上来说应该与从句有一定的语法联系。基于此,我们不难得出结论,从句that every person has his or her own specific opinion缺少一个单词,这个单词的语法作用是在从句和something之间建立内容链接。很自然地,我们会想到短语to have some opinion about something。由此可以得出结论,Music is something that every person has his or her own specific opinion的錯误之处在于opinion后面缺少了一个介词about。

接下来,我们进一步拓展关于名词性从句的语法知识。请看第二个改错练习Groups of people around the world can come together to show that their interests are and you see how many people have similar interests as you.这个句子是由并列连词and连接的并列句。第一个句子为简单句,Groups of people为主语,can come together to show...是由情态动词can引导的谓语动词短语,其中动词不定式to show引导目的状语;and后面的句子主语是you,谓语动词是see,后面是由how many (people)引导出来的宾语从句,宾语从句中谓语动词部分是have similar interests,as you是一个同级比较状语从句,为了句子看起来更精炼,在you后面省略了助动词do,相当于have interests。

完成这个练习后,可以一鼓作气地整理一下that的其他用法。在下面的例句中when I had my own family, I was different because I didn’t want to treat my own sons the same way I was treated。我们会发现,the same way后面省略了关系词that,那么that在从句中的语法功能是什么呢?从句I was treated.的主语和谓语结构完整,因此可以推断,that在从句中做副词。那么that代替哪个现行词呢?如果代替way,那么不符合that在从句中的副词功能;如果想满足that的副词功能,那么它所代替的就是一个可以做状语的成分,由此我们可以得出结论,the same way结构中省略了介词in,也就是说(in)the same way在原因状语从句because I didn’t want to treat my own sons the same way中充当方式状语,后面省略了关系词that,相当于in which,在定语从句I was treated中扮演方式状语的角色。

3.总结

通过以上练习,我们可以看出,简单的改错句练习,不仅可以帮助我们检查在日程口语和写作过程中经常出现的错误,同时可以在完成改错练习后,结合相关的语法知识,进行进一步的拓展练习。围绕核心语法知识,多问几个为什么,会把之前比较混乱的语法知识梳理清晰。

第2篇:高级英语课程中提高校对改错能力模式新探

摘要: 英语专业八级考试中的“校对与改错”考项考查学生综合运用语言知识的能力,而综合技能培养是高级英语课程的重点,因此可以把校对与改错能力训练整合在高级英语教学中,建立新的教学模式。通过在教学思想、目标、方法和步骤上顺应校对与改错能力的思维过程,强化能力训练,从而提高解题能力。

引言

英语专业八级考试的六个大题中,除一道题是知识性考查(人文知识)外,其余都是考查语言运用能力的。而其中四道题(听力、阅读、写作、翻译)属于直接考查学生某方面能力(听、读、写、译),而校读与改错(proof-reading and error-correction)则是以“测试学生运用语言知识的能力”为目的,要求考生“能运用语法、词汇、修辞等语言知识识别所给短文的语病并提出改正的方法”。可见,校读与改错考查的不是某个单方面的能力,而是考查学生的综合运用语言的能力,与《英语专业八级考试大纲》中提出的考查语言综合运用能力的目标是一致的。而且校读与改错考项包括了语篇语境(给成段短文),考点覆盖面大(从语言结构到语意),而且能考查到一点产生性运用能力(不仅仅辨错,还要求改错),评卷也客观,所以它应该是测试学生语言准确性最有效的题型(李筱菊1997:323)。从考试结果来看,这道题的成绩与总成绩有显著相关,它的特点是区分度比较大,是学生成绩分布较为参差不齐和较为严重的一项(李彬彬,2007)。这道题同时也是学生失分较多的一项。如下表所示,在历年的八级考试中,这部分的成绩一般都在5分以下。

由于这道题的综合性,需要提高学生校对与改错能力,教师和学生往往不知从何处下手,提高得分也相应地比较困难。比较普遍的做法是采取“功利主义”的训练方法,在考试前一两个月,讲练大量练习题(包括真题和模拟题),其结果总是不能令人满意——“做完四、五十篇改错练习后正确率并没有明显的上升,许多学生因自己‘原地踏步’而焦急万分”(李玉美,2007)。许多学者和一线教师都积极提出改进的方法和策略。

一、 提高方法文献综述

李彬彬(2007)指出“校对与改错”是语言知识的全面考查,而语言知识包括语言基础知识(语法、词汇和搭配)、语篇知识和背景知识,甚至还有解题技巧,学生应该在各个方面都要打下坚实的基础。她认为理解是判断正误的基础,所以要提高“校对与改错”的得分,还要加强阅读训练,提高准确、全面理解语篇的能力。

李玉英(2007)则对教学目标和教学方法进行了反思。发现急功近利的训练方法最大的问题在于只注重以考试和考题为导向,练习缺乏整体性和系统性,语法讲解总是顾此失彼,所以学生成绩难以有进步。她分析了历年的考试规律,总结出考试的重点语法项目,找出学生的薄弱环节进行专项训练,并且编写了顺口溜帮助学生记忆。教学方法上突出语法的语用维度,把语法教学与能力培养结合在一起,提高学生的语篇理解能力。

李光梅、周流溪(2007)认为应该把校对与改错能力的提高作为高级英语教学的一部分,因为高级英语是基于基础英语之上的一门训练学生综合英语技能的课程,而“对学生校对与改错能力的培养是提高学生语言综合运用能力的重要形式之一”。一方面,把课堂教学和课外实践结合起来,充分调动教师和学生主动性,创造各种运用语言的机会,在语言的使用中提高语言综合能力;另一方面,定期(每两周)进行校对与改错专项练习,讲解解题的策略与技巧,同时发现学生中存在的问题(“犯错误最多的是语法,其次是词语,再其次是篇章理解”),及时调整教学策略和重点(“训练学生正确把握篇章结构和理解文章大意的整体的同时,还应注重引导学生对文章中句子的基本语法结构的掌握,让学生掌握基本词汇及短语”),全面提高学生校对与改错能力。

以上学者和教师的研究和实践可以概括为两条:

1.校对与改错能力涵盖了语言多方面的知识,所以,提高校对与改错能力,教师要了解各层次语言知识的内容,以及学生的不足,进行系统的、有计划、有针对性的训练,否则难以取得效果。

2.要提高“校对与改错”的得分,仅仅做练习是不够的,还必须加强语言综合能力的训练。“校对与改错”从本质上讲,是考查学生的语言综合运用知识的能力,分数的提高应该以能力的提高为前提。而语言综合能力的训练和提高应渗透到平时的教学之中去,并非一蹴而就的。

同时,这些研究也存在一个问题,那就是相对于有系统、有计划的考试专项练习相比,课堂上的语言能力的综合训练就显得没那么有章法了。或者说了大概的原则,没有具体思路和做法,或者把所有平时用于学生语言练习的各种方法总结一遍。“方法的综合”不等于“综合的方法”。本文试图就课堂进行语言能力综合训练,提高校对与改错能力寻找新的模式。

二、“校对与改错”能力课堂综合训练模式

在讨论综合训练模式之前,必须清楚一个问题,那就是“校对与改错”是考查综合运用语言知识的能力,考生做题是不是就是对各个语言层面进行分析,运用语言知识,找出错误,然后改正的呢?即“校对与改错”是如何体现对综合能力要求的?换句话说,校对与改错能力是哪些基本能力的综合?

刘建达、杨满珍(2001)对12位考生进行了“校对与改错”的有声思维(think-aloud)考试,对他们的思维过程进行分析,发现“他们首先做的是理解,然后根据理解对意义进行重组,接着才是找错和改错。……学生虽然运用了大量的语法知识来分析,但导致他们出错的主要原因不是他们的语法知识,而是对原文的理解以及对所理解的意义的正确表达”。从而印证了他们在对另外30位学生进行的笔试研究中的发现——“校对与改错”成绩与阅读和写作有显著相关,与语法相关系数却没有显著意义。可见,“校对与改错”综合了阅读与写作两种能力,阅读和写作都要贯穿语言的各个层面(词汇,语法,语篇),只不过方向相反,从而组成一个有机的整体。校对与改错能力是两个能力组成的过程:先是进行阅读理解,然后是根据理解的意思进行写作,再把自己的写作与题目进行对照。所以,错误不是学生找出来的,而是他们在写作中“发现”的,没有“发现”错误,说明整个过程中某个环节出现了误差。

基于以上的理解,把校对与改错能力训练融合到高级英语课程中,意味着高级英语课不再是单纯的阅读课,而是通过阅读培养语言精确性意识,提高写作能力。因此,新的教学模式可以从思想、方法和实践三个层次开展:

1. 教学思想上明确语言能力是不可分割的,阅读和写作是一个整体,它们都有相同的语言知识要求,只是知识运用的方向不同而已。所以在高级英语课程中,阅读本身已经不再是单纯的理解文字的过程,分析语言结构,记忆语言知识即可,阅读理解应该是要理解文章作者的写作过程,理解作者如何从语篇知识到语言知识的创造性过程,即应该站在写作的角度理解阅读。因为写作,从一定意义上来说,是以供他人阅读为目的的。高级英语课教学目标不仅仅是单纯进行阅读理解的过程,更重要的是要在阅读理解的基础上进行综合技能训练。对于提高校对与改错能力来说,就是要理解作者的写作意图,提高对语言精确性练习的要求,加强写作训练。

2. 教学方法和步骤上遵循从理解到写作的程序。在有关“校读与改错”的解题技巧上,大多数学者和教师都提出应当先从文章大意,句子关系的理解开始,然后才是从语法角度进行分析,寻找错误。这是符合校读与改错能力的思维过程的。所以,在讲授高级英语课文时,首先是理解作者的写作意图以及文章结构,也就是说,从语篇开始讲解,再把学生的注意力逐步引向作者的用词和句子结构,关注作者语言表达的精确性,从而提高学生的语言精确性意识。在课文讲授完成后,可以适当布置与课文相关的写作作业,进行写作训练。

3.把“校读与改错”练习渗透到高级英语课程的听、说、读、写、译能力的训练中,使之成为能力综合训练练习的一部分。可以把课文改编为“校读与改错”题目,引导学生注意文章语言的精确性,同时检查学生对课文语言的掌握程度,发现不足之处。也可以定期进行“校读与改错”的专项练习,尤其是在考试准备阶段,重点练习和熟练解题技巧和策略。

结语

英语专业八级考试是衡量英语专业高年级学生语言综合能力所达到的水平,对于高级英语教学有重要的指导作用。教师应该正确理解考试的内涵,及其对学生各方面能力的要求,把能力的训练融合到平时的教学中去,正确使用考试的“反拨”作用,而不只是为了考试而考试,采取“临时抱佛脚”的投机备考方法,结果只能是事倍功半。对于考查语言综合能力的“校对与改错”来说,成绩的提高尤其要注重平时有计划、有方法地训练和积累。只有遵循了解题的思路,进行语言综合训练,完善各层次的语言知识,解题的能力才能有真正的改善。

在初中英语学习中,“初一成绩差不多,初二成绩分化大,初三成绩天上地下”的现象是越来越突出。可见,初二英语成绩的好差直接影响学生的考试成绩,也影响着我们的英语教学质量。如何防止分化,是值得我们研究讨论并着手解决的问题。

一、初二英语现象的成因

解决问题犹如医生治病,要对症下药。所以,解决初二英语分化现象的问题,需找准“病因”。在教学实践中,我认为造成“初二现象”的原因是教师方面的原因和学生方面的原因。

1.学生方面的原因

其一,初二英语的难度增加和知识量的增大是英语分化的原因之一。学生刚进入初一时,对学习环境及课程内容有较大的新鲜感和好奇心,大部分学生能较好地完成初一阶段的英语学习内容。但学生在进入初二英语学习阶段后,随着单词量的增大,不同语境中不同时态的交替使用,复合句的大量出现,知识难度加大,使部分学生感到学习困难,从而导致英语分化现象的出现。

其二,初二现象是出现英语分化的重要原因。初二的学生处于青春发育期,也称为“心理性断乳期”。他们叛逆、易受外界影响、情绪波动大、暴躁、违纪违规频繁、存在心理障碍等特征。同时,他们又具有可塑性、主动、追求独立等特点。因此,初二阶段既是学生发展的危险期,同时也不可避免成为教育的关键期。

其三,学生的不良学习习惯和学习方法是造成分化的主要原因。初中學生学习成绩主要不取决于智力因素,而取决于非智力因素,其中包括学习习惯,且学习习惯是学习好坏的重要因素。由于一部分学生从小养成了贪玩,学习不用心等坏习惯。进入初二学习后,这种习惯上的差异就很自然显现在学习成绩的差异上。在学习方法上,从小养成死记硬背,或凭小聪明学习,形成了浅层次思维。所以,分化也会随着知识的加深而出现。

2.教师方面的原因

教师方面的原因主要在于教师的教学观念、教学水平、教学方法等。众所周知,往往学生喜欢你这个教师,那这个学生这科的成绩就比较好。所以,一个英语教师个人素质的高低,自然也是学生成绩好坏的原因之一。因此,如何提高教师的个人素质,扩大“优生”面,是值得每一位英语教师思考的问题。

二、解决初二英语现象的对策

1.正确认识差距,帮助缩短差距

学生进入初二后,学习分化也随之出现,这是十分正常的现象。面对分化,教师要因材施教,树立正确的差距观,持有正确处理差距的方法和态度,才能解决教学中存在的两极分化现象。首先,对于学生的听写量进行分层要求,减少学生对学习的压力和恐惧。其次,开展课外“兴趣小组”“辅导小组”或“一帮一”等活动。通过活动,帮助他们做好预习、复习等。在课堂上,设置问题要有梯度,要面向不同层次的学生,尽可能照顾到容易分化或被分化的学生。

2.加强学生的学习习惯培养

好习惯成就一个人,坏习惯毁掉一个人。学生成绩差,不是智力原因,而是习惯原因。而这个原因往往也是被学生忽略的一个成绩差异的重要原因。所以培养学生在英语课堂上的好习惯是十分重要的。我认为,教师不只是给学生在学习上笼统地提出要求,而是要对学生做较具体的要求。如,课前准备要求,自主学习要求,小组讨论、互助学习要求,做笔记要求,回答问题要求、作业的要求等。从实际教学经验中,我认为这些课堂要求不要教师单方面提出,而是要和学生一起来制定。这种达成共识的要求是经过学生思考之后形成的,他们会更能记住。如果学生没有做到,教师应要对学生进行相应的习惯培训,直至做好。我相信,只有学生在学习的主阵地上做好了,分化才会变小。

3.加强学习方法指导,培养学生的良好学习方法

如果一个学生在学校里只知道积蓄知识,而不懂得掌握获得知识的方法,是很难学好的,也是很痛苦的。没有学习方法的人犹如一个猎人走进森林,只带干粮没带猎枪一样。

怎样培养良好的学习方法呢?(1)让学生制定切实可行的学习计划。学习计划的制订,最好采用“渐进法”,把长期、复杂的学习过程分解成许多小的阶段,逐步加以完成,让自己在完成计划的过程中体验到成功的喜悦。(2)帮助学生做好自我评估,反思自己的学习。(3)作为学生来说,可以向其他同学、老师、书本借鉴有效的学习方法,只有掌握的方法越多,解决问题的速度才能越快。(4)学会及时总结经验,反思学习,创新学习方法。

英语有哪些学习方法呢?单词的记忆是学生学习的一大障碍,我们常看到有的学生,一背单词就拿笔写个几十遍,背了一个小时也没记住几个。所以,我们应该加强如何将单词拼写与单词发音配合来记忆的训练,改变死记硬背单词。在知识点的掌握上,除了要让学生理解,还要多操练,通过练,加深理解和记忆。背诵课文也是学习英语的一种有效方法.是知识输入的一种有效途径,它不但可以帮助学生掌握大量的英语基础知识,而且可培养学生丰富的语感。

4.改变教学观念,讲究教法

要想改变初二英语学习中的分化现象,作为老师,我们还得做出以下努力:(1)从根本上改变教学观念,要善于总结自己的教学经验,提高教学艺术。(2)要精心设计教学环节,让教师的讲解更加精彩。在教学设计中,尽可能采用教学活动化,注重学生的参与,充分体现教师的主导和学生的主体作用。(3)讲究教法,因材施教。我们所设置的三维目标要符合学生的认知规律。教法上要力求“实”和“活”。所谓“实”就是讲究实际效果,把教学大纲化为具体的要求,落实到教和学上。课堂上,精讲多练,以学生为主;对每个单元进行考查、总结,分析存在问题,及时查漏补缺,帮助学生过关。所谓“活”就是侧重听说训练,制造环境,多给学生实践的机会,让学生在既紧张而又活泼的气氛中学习英语。

5.激发学习动力,培养自信和兴趣

对于初二学生来说,获得成功或进步就是他们学习最大的动力,也是获得自信的重要源泉。所以,教学中要难易适度,不要挫伤学生的学习动力,让学生失去自信和学习兴趣。另外,良好的师生关系对培养学生的兴趣大有帮助,教师要学会与学生交朋友,不歧视他们,不动辄训斥他们,常鼓励他们。最后,创设科学的奖励机制,也是激发学生学习的最大动力。奖项的设置,既要考虑优秀,更要考虑中差生,项目尽可能多一点。奖励的频率也不要过快,分半期和期末。发奖的单位不能只是教师或学校,还应该有家长,而学生更在乎家长的奖励。发奖的形式也可多样化,除了发奖状,还可以发兑奖券,让学生拿着兑奖券在家长那里领奖,这不仅让学生得到家长的认可,还是一个让家长参与到学生学习管理的好方法。

初二是整个初中学习的关键阶段,初二英语现象也是在所难免,作为教师的我们,应关注每一个学生,尽可能缩小这种差距,改变这种分化。
