初中学生，正是长身体、长知识的快速期，而且具有较强的向师性和旺盛的求知欲，基于这样的特点，教师必须提高自己在学生心目中的地位，使学生 “亲其师而信其道”。这就要求教师时刻关注、搜集电视、报刊、杂志及互联网上的有关地理的最新知识和信息，力争达到 “要想给学生一杯水，自己就必须有一桶水”的境界。使学生在接受知识的过程中从心灵深处产生一种崇敬之情，从而激发学生潜在的动力。如：用文学 “橘子生在淮南为橘子，生在淮北为枳子”来解释气候的变化；用 “人间四月芳菲尽，山寺桃花始盛开”来理解气温随海拔变化而变化的成因。这样，既加深了学生对地理知识的掌握，也提高了学生知识的综合能力。

2.采取机动灵活的教学手段，激发学生的学习兴趣

教学实践告诉我们，课堂是师生互动的主要阵地，是学生巩固旧知识、接受新知识的主要场所。课堂教学只有采用机动灵活的教学手段，才能达到或超出预想的效果。想想看，新课改前千篇一律的教学方法，往往是 “满堂灌”，其结果是老师讲得口干舌燥，学生听得糊里糊涂，这样的结果又怎能符合新课改的要求？所以，在日常工作中，教师应根据教材的不同内容和学生不同时期的心理特点及其认知水平，不断调整自己的教学手段，时刻调动学生的学习主动性，以达到提高教学效果的目的。现在所使用的教材中，有许多知识点书中精简但要求学生记住，在这样的情况下你一味去讲，效果无疑要打折扣。这时可充分利用教材中的 “学习行动”，通过比较、综合、谜语竞猜、图像畅想等手段让学生参与教学，使学生的积极性得以提高。如：讲长江、黄河时，就可采用比较法、图示法及表格形式，让学生去查找两条河的异同点，使学生在参与教学的过程中，体验成功的喜悦，也为祖国山河壮美而自豪。

3.运用直观教具激发学生的学习兴趣

在目前所使用的教材中，有些地理知识，对初中生而言，抽象难懂，比如降雨的三种类型：锋面雨、对流雨和地形雨，学生难以理解，此时，教师为了达到预期的教学效果，就应在教学过程中充分利用现代的多媒体手段，将这些知识点用动画的形式点播在学生面前，形象生动，通俗易懂，用较少的时间，达到最大的效果，从而起到事半功倍的作用。
