五、文化对道歉的影响

研究表明,外国人比中国人对道歉的分类范畴明显要多,而且对道歉的使用因对象和场景的不同而产生的差异很大。中国人的道歉主要因对象的不同而产生较大的差异。当对象为关系亲密的人时差异最大,尤其是对象为母亲等自己敬重的女性时,中国人就比较内敛,道歉也相对要含蓄或难以开口。就像表达爱意一样,中国人对自己的亲人比较内敛,很少表达或很含蓄的表达。而外国人就相对比较直接一些,在表达歉意时,也是如此。

外国人对自己亲密的朋友和亲人、陌生人也多数使用致歉。而中国人对自己的亲密朋友和亲人较少致歉,多对陌生人致歉。场景不同时,中国人和外国人道歉的差异很大。但对象相同时,道歉的差异很小。比如在道歉形式上,2、3两种道歉方式,中国人习惯上容易首先说明原因,然后再道歉,并表示不是自己刻意为之。而外国人习惯先道歉,然后再说明原因。例如迟到了,英语里面会说“I am sorry,I amlate.May I come in?”。因为……而中国人会先说路上堵车……之类的原因,然后再表示歉意,或者先考虑自己给对方是否造成了麻烦,然后再考虑道歉。

道歉的语气和弥补行为的诚恳程度与文化和社会道德等因素相关。例如,去朋友家里做客,在有些国家,客人需要比约定的时间早一点到。而在有些国家,客人去早了会被认为是不合适的,会让主人因为准备不充分而显得尴尬。所以这种道歉,有时候是因为真的迟到了而道歉,有时候是因为给主人造成了不便而道歉。也有时候是因为谦虚而将的客套话。

六、英语学习者和以英语为母语的人在道歉时相同之处
