We should try our best to find hope. So today, I am honored to stand here to share my opinion with you---- Let’s say NO to Give UP.
Even now I can still see a very special picture in my mind now. I was taking part in the 800-meter race. To be honest, it was not hard at first. I felt energetic and confident. We were all pushing on to the finishing line. One minute, two minutes,… Terrible!~ One of the athletes was half the lap ahead of me. So tired and worried I was that my feet could not move any further. “Give up?” A low voice came from the bottom of my heart. At the same time I could feel something shining. My friends and even my Mom and Dad were watching and shouting so loud, “Come on! Never give up!” Strangely, my body kept going. Anyhow I would finish the competition. And I made it.
What about you? When meeting any difficulty, you can not even see any hope at that moment, will you give up? No, let’s say NO to GIVE UP.
1 研究设计
1.1 研究问题
1)主题短演讲(short speech)有哪些有效形式?
2)主题短演讲是否能有效激发学生学习和使用英语的积极性?
1.2 研究对象
两位笔者选定所任教的安徽大学江淮学院非英语专业的四个班学生作为研究对象。
1.3 研究方法
采用随堂听课和个别访谈的方式。研究在真实课堂中进行,以便采集真实可信的资料。
2 主题短演讲的实施办法、形式和意义
2.1 实施办法
笔者在开学初布置一份学习任务,即要求学生自由组合成两到三人的小组,每个小组选择一个与所学单元内容相关且组员都比较感兴趣的话题,在课余时间进行探讨,各小组轮流在每次课前利用五分钟左右的时间对相应主题做出陈述,要求尽量脱稿且表达自然。
2.2 形式
主题短演讲的陈述可以由小组派代表或组员共同完成,可以借助多媒体的辅助。根据笔者统计结果,学生较多采用以下形式:
1)板书演讲主题,脱稿演讲。一般是英语基础较好的同学采用这种形式,演讲中的语法错误较少,但容易变成背诵。
2)利用PPT添加关键词和图片展示。最初PPT上经常出现大段文字,学生的演讲就变成了朗读,因此笔者及时做出调整,要求学生只能在PPT上展示关键词作为提示。例如有一组的主题是Traveling around the world,陈述时通过PPT展示了世界各地的代表性景点,轻易地吸引了听众的注意力。
3)利用音频和视频辅助。当演讲主题需要时,很多小组会借助相关音视频的帮助,提升感染力。如在演讲Earthquake时,小组成员找来了汶川抗震的视频资料,造成了强烈的视觉冲击,不少听众都落泪了。
4)小组全体成员以小品形式做陈述。在这种形式中,小组成员的参与度最高,每个人都有固定角色,通过角色扮演来对主题进行讨论。
2.3 意义
当前独立学院大学英语教学采用的主要是传统的以教师为中心的原则,形成了英语教学主体单一化、教学结构模式化、教学目标和教学组织形式单一化、教学方式静态化和教学与生活割裂的局面(董明,2004)。因此,培养学生的听说能力、鼓励学生在生活中使用英语就成了英语教师们面临的一大挑战。
浙江大学庞继贤(2000)认为,小组活动能减轻学习者在参加语言交际活动中可能产生的焦虑心理,使他们表现出更大的学习积极性和创造性。独立学院的学生因入学分数的影响,更容易在英语学习过程中产生自卑和焦虑情绪,因此要求学生自由组合参加小组活动能有效缓解他们在英语学习中的负面心理。小组讨论时一般会经历以下几个环节:确定主题—头脑风暴—列出大纲—完成讲稿。在头脑风暴阶段,各小组成员都要积极参与,提出各种不同的看法,并且各自的想法要由本人在列大纲环节用英语表达出来,可以是关键词,也可以是句子。这就要求组员学习相关词汇,并尽量正确地表述。在完成讲稿时也要求组员的共同探讨,比如纠正语法错误、选定最贴切的词汇等。
在小组讨论之后又要求各组在班级做出陈述,这就形成了小组讨论形式的任务型教学法(task-oriented teaching),即以具体的任务为学习动力和动机,以完成任务的过程为学习的过程,以展示任务成果的方式来体现教学成就的一种教学方式(丰玉芳唐晓岩,2004:35)。这种教学法注重语意的传达,对学生出现的语法错误采取宽容的态度,并寻找合适的机会给予纠正,鼓励学生大胆地运用英语表情达意,让学生在运用英语的过程中体验成功的喜悦,获得自信(朱玉梅,2006)。根据笔者的实践和观察,最初的几组在陈述阶段不够自信,但后面的各组逐渐吸取经验教训,即使有语法错误也能尽量准确地表意,因此各组的表现日益进步。
最后,因为所演讲的主题应当与本单元所学内容相关,小组的陈述就适时地成为了精读课堂的导入(lead-in)。课前导入环节在英语精读课堂教学中具有重要的作用,是整堂课的开头和引发学生学习热情和兴趣的关键(于超,2012)。主题短演讲因其形式多样、内容丰富,不仅提高了组员对相关单元知识的理解,也有助于吸引听众的学习兴趣,从而整体上提高班级英语教学效果。
3 结束语
通过要求学生以小组形式做简短的主题演讲,促使学生用英语进行表达,激发了学生使用英语的积极性,活跃了课堂气氛,不失为一种较有效地教学辅助形式。但本文还只是一个初步的成果。主题演讲如何才能使每个组员都有均等的表达机会?激发学生使用英语的积极性对于提高学生的四六级成绩是否有明显的积极意义?这些问题还有待于进一步探讨。

复习课在整个学习活动中是帮助学生回顾、整理已学知识,从而使学生对结构化内容巩固和提高的重要环节,它既需要帮助学生重温已学的知识、技能,使记忆中的痕迹得到强化,更为重要的是引领学生对已获得的知识进行个性化,结构式的整理、归纳、概括。然而,在英语复习课中,教师常常受制于具体的知识与语法应用,因此,汉语说得多,语法规则解释得多,复习练习布置得多,唯独引发学生结构化思考的环节与过程少。英语复习索然无趣,效果事倍功半。对此,笔者针对小学英语复习的问题,提出自我解决方法,即:创设主题式“话题”,引领学生结构复习。
一、以主题引领复习内容,整合学习素材
《译林版 三年级起点英语》教材的知识体系是学段之间螺旋递进,因此,同一话题会散落在各册教材中,平时的新授课一个单元一个话题,主题鲜明,话题集中,给学生是一个整体的概念。但上复习课时有的教师往往忽略话题,或者纯粹复习语法,或者纯粹复习知识点,这样的课堂就显得比较凌乱,不利于学生对知识的完整掌握。复习课上如何将学过的零散的知识和内容按一定的规律串联起来,使学生形成整体的网状式的知识体系,围绕话题进行整合复习不失为一种较好的办法。
1、借助主题,建立相关词汇联系网
词汇是语言的建筑材料,对学生来说,词汇的掌握情况直接关系到学生英语的掌握程度。如: 三下U2 In the library, 四上U4 I can play basketball, 四下U3 My day, 五下U4 Hobbies, 五上U7 At weekends, 五下U5 Helping our parents这些单元都涉及到的是动词,有运动类的,有家务类的,有爱好类的,有休闲生活的。因此可以整合成一个情景话题“Hobbies”,这样在复习过程中所有跟“学生会做的事情”相关的词汇,都从学生的口中涌现了出来,为后续的学习做好了铺垫。
2、借助主题,活化语法应用与认识
语法是人类特有的语言资源,是语言的组织规律,赋予语言以结构系统,是连接语音、文字系统的枢纽。六上前四个单元都是围绕“一般过去时”展开,特别是U4的主题Then and now, 课文内容把过去和现在的生活进行了比较,非常自然地巧妙的对一般过去时和一般现在时融合运用。在学习了课文之后,教师还可以引导学生对于各种主题进行过去和现在的对比。比如:吃的食物、交通工具、衣着、住的房子、休闲生活等等,在情境中巧妙的分解语法点,使学生在不知不觉中得以灵活掌握。
二、以主题创设应用情境,激发学生表达欲望
心理学研究表明:浓厚的学习兴趣可以使各种感官、大脑处于最活跃的状态,能够最佳的接受教学信息。充分调动学生参与活动的积极性,激发学生的学习兴趣是提高复习课教学极其重要的一环。在复习过程中,教师要针对学生语言学习的整体情况,结合语言学习的要点将复习的内容进行聚焦,并创设有意义的情景,提供有价值的话题,从而提高学生学习的兴趣,防止学生在复习课上产生疲倦的情绪,使得复习更有针对性。
时态是英语学习的难点和重点。例如:在复习时态“一般过去时”与“一般将来时”时,我创设了情景 “What’s the matter with Hello Kitty?”, 首先呈现图片“凯蒂猫不开心”,让学生猜测原因,这时要用到过去时,学生的回答精彩纷呈:Because she was hungry. Because she lost his new kite. Because she had a lot of homework.学生大胆猜测以后,老师呈现图片:Because she took part in an English contest and she failed the exam. 并提出下一问题请同学讨论:What is she going to do? 自然地过渡到将来时的复习。学生给出了很多鼓励的句子,She is going to do more practice. She is going to have a try. 整个复习围绕凯蒂不開心的话题,牢牢的抓住了学生的“心”,学生也将各种时态的结构把握得准确到位,复习效果非常好。
三、以主题突出知识应用,提升综合能力
1、主题梳理,培养学自主整理知识的能力
建构主义学习理论非常强调学生在知识掌握过程中个体的作用,认为知识不是由教师传授的,而是学生在一定的情境中通过自己的探索发现,主动建构知识意义的过程,意义的建构是教学活动的最终目标。总复习教学过程不是炒“现饭”的过程,老师应该关注学生的已有知识点,激发兴趣点,发展提升点,更应该关注学生自主学习能力的培养——自主整理知识与技能。
小学中年级的英语学习主要以口语为主,以积累为主要学习形式。但到了高年级,学生理性思维发展了,有独立思考,自主学习的能力了。在复习一般现在时和一般过去时时,让学生总结这两个时态的句子结构的时候,学生就能根据Gramma time的例句进行归类、比较。并且梳理出肯定句、否定句、一般疑问句、特殊疑问句各种句型的结构,同时还对其中重点的动词形式进行总结、比较、归纳,这样,有了清晰的知识结构,运用起来也是得心应手。
2、主题整合,引导学生正确的人生观
《新课程标准》指出,英语学习过程中要保持积极的学习态度,将兴趣转化为稳定的学习动机,增强祖国意识,形成正确的人生观价值观。六上U5 Signs, U6 Keep our city clean, U7 Protect the earth,以及三下U2 In the library中都是与生活息息相关、紧密联系的“规则”和“环保”话题。通过这些主题的学习,能树立学生正确的规则意识,引导学生遵守公共法规、珍惜热爱城市环境的意识。

As everyone knows, it is jay that i am the most favorite! i mention more than once , i believe all classmates know now . why do i like him ? why am i fascinated for him? in fact the reason is very simple, his music makes me move!
I remember listening to his song for the first time, it is the summer vacation of grade one at the junior middle school . i have bought a tape of his, write the homework while listening to every night. like this, day after day. slowly, i find his music really very good, really have appeal very much! his pop has a kind of characteristic that can not say, the person of he has a kind of glamour that can not say too!

That s why, over the past month, I ve traveled all across America, laying out my ideas for how we can build on the cornerstones of what it means to be middle class.A good job that pays a good wage.A good education.A home of your own.Health care when you get sick.
A secure retirement even if you re not rich.And more chances for folks to earn their way into the middle class as long as they re willing to work for it.The truth is, it s not going to be easy to reverse the forces that have conspired-for decades-against working Americans.But if we take a few bold steps-and if Washington is able to come together with common purpose and common resolve-we ll get there.
Our economy will keep getting stronger and more Americans will be able to join the ranks of the middle-class.So this Labor Day, while you re out there grilling in the backyard,or taking that final trip for the summer,I hope you ll also take a moment to reflect on the many contributions of our working men and women.

一、班级早报,营造英语学习氛围
班级早报是我接手新班级时关于班级文化建设做的一个尝试。早报活动安排在每天早晨英语课前三分钟,要求学生以新闻播报的方式,轮流播报。活动以小组形式展开,学生需根据教师在课前布置的话题任务,利用课后时间自行收集、处理材料, 形成新闻,并推选小组成员上台呈现,呈现方式可借助多媒体课件,时间不宜超过5分钟。开展这项活动后,学生们英语学习的兴致提高了不少,特别是活动以小组形式展开,综合考虑了每个学生的实际英语水平,组员之间扬长避短,各取所长,有人负责收集材料,有人负责写新闻稿,有人负责课件制作,有人则负责上讲台播报,每个学生都有机会参与到实践活动中,并在实践中获得成功的价值肯定。例如,在教学译林版初中英语8B中的Unit 4 A good read时,我在教学之前给学生布置了播报话题“Do you like reading,What type of book do you like?”在此话题的驱动下,学生下课后就讨论开了,同小组成员分享着自己的阅读体验,有的学生还特地从家里带来一些英语读物,如英语绘本、英语报纸等,同小组成员分享。负责播报的小组更是别出心裁,他们以问询的方式,收集班级同学最喜爱的英语读物,并将这些读物的简介做成小海报,形象地向大家展示他们的探究成果。在这样趣味横生的播报活动中,学生们各展其才,各有所得,英语学习的兴趣更加浓厚了。
二、集体阅读,提高自主学习能力
语篇是语言的“混合声”,它以大融合的方式,综合考察学生的语用能力,培养学生的语言素养。古人云,书中自有黄金屋, 书中自有颜如玉。要帮助学生培养持久的学习兴趣,就要为学生打开语篇的海洋,教会学生阅读的技巧,提高他们自主学习的能力,以过硬的学习硬件强化他们的学习兴趣,激发他们的学习潜能。例如,在教学译林版初中英语7A中的Unit 2 Let's play sports时,我利用午间阅读时间,为学生精心准备了一场“运动盛宴”。在这场集体阅读活动中,我以“Sports”为主题,为每个小组准备了以运动为主题的语篇素材,如basketball、football、 swimming、volleyball等。在活动中,小组之间采用交错阅读的方式展开“阅读知多少”的小组竞赛活动,比一比哪个小组先完成教师准备的阅读卡片,完成所有阅读任务,闯关成功。在这样的集体阅读活动中,不仅将阅读这个学习行为以“随风潜入夜”的形式深入到学生的内心,还丰富了学生的英语学习方式,激发了他们的学习与探究兴趣,促进了阅读能力的有效提高。
三、团日活动,扩大英语活动范围
团日活动是青年汲取精神食粮、展现个性风采、实现自我成长的主阵地。初中是学生中学生活的第一站,在这一时期,他们的生理变化是突出的,除了显而易见的生理变化之外,他们的心理与思维也在发生着剧烈的“化学反应”,如心理自我的形成、自我意识的发酵、竞争性与进击意识的发展等。基于学生这样的年龄特征,教师更要以团日为舞台,为他们创设丰富多彩的教学活动,让他们在汲取知识的同时,感受到创造的乐趣。例如,在教学译林版初中英语7A中的Unit 7 Shopping时,我浏览学生朋友圈时发现,不少学生都有网购,特别是在微信上网购的亲身经验。因此,如果以此为契机,开展一个与“微商”有关的语言实践活动,一定能激发他们广泛的参与和讨论。为此,我利用班级团日活动课的时间,借助微信平台,开启了一个“微爱小屋”。在这个小屋中,学生可以转售自己平时不用、或者旧的生活用品、书籍,或者以物换物,但是交易过程必须通过英语交际完成,交易所得可以自行安排,也可以捐给需要帮助的人。在这项团日活动中,以学生所熟悉的网络平台为媒介,巧妙地插入本单元的语言知识点,同时渗透情感教育,将活动与知识有效地融合在一起,实现了学与用的统一。
四、结束语
在教学探究的道路上,兴趣是一个老生常谈却又不得不谈的话题。学生对学习有兴趣,教师教得顺心,学生学得开心,自然是事半功倍。然而,问题是学生的兴趣并不稳定,往往有着一定的保质期,教师应该为学生的兴趣“保鲜”。总之,兴趣是最好的老师。在初中英语教学中,要重视学生的兴趣培养,把学生对英语学习的好奇、喜爱、探索欲求,发展为他们持久的、内在的学习兴趣,以兴趣激活学生的主体性,激发学生的个性创造。而主题探究不失为一种为学生学习兴趣保鲜的有效手段。条条大路通罗马,只要教师勇于探索和实践,一定能够发现更多、更好的主题探究途径。

1 . 引言
在人类历史上,演讲与辩论作为一种语言艺术在传播思想、建立学说方面扮演了重要的角色。在西方文明史上其历史可以追溯到以柏拉图为代表的古希腊时期,而在中国,其历史可以追溯到百家争鸣的春秋战国时期。当今世界,在很多国家尤其是美国,演讲与辩论已经成为了大学生的一门必修课程。近些年来,随着英语专业人才培养要求的提高和英语专业建设的发展,演讲与辩论课程在越来越多的中国高校获得了越来越高的重视度。特别是CCTV杯大学生英语演讲比赛、21世纪杯英语演讲比赛,以及外研社杯英语辩论赛等大型英语演讲比赛和英语辩论赛的进行,更是激发了英语专业学生对于英语演讲与辩论技巧的关注和进行探索的热情。
英语演讲与辩论课程不同于其他的理论性课程,具有突出的实践性特点,在课堂教学中改变了以老师讲述为主的课堂惯例,更多地要求以学生为主体的互动式教学。此课程的目的并不是将每位学生都培养成演说家,而是让学生在活跃的课堂氛围中,在语言表述能力得到提高的同时,还能在交际能力、心理素质以及思辨能力等多方面有全面的提高。
2 . 英语演讲与辩论课程对语言能力的提高
要成为一个优秀的演讲家,首先要具备的是对于语言的掌控能力。因此,在此课程的教学中无疑会将提升学生的语言能力放在首位。
首先,为了在公众场合流畅地表达个人思想,就要提高学生的口头表达能力。在口头表达中,有两个重要的指标,即准确度和流利度。准确度主要是考察演讲者是否有正确、清晰的发音,流利度主要考察演讲者是否能连贯地表达个人思想,有没有出现过多的、不必要的停顿和重复。在传统课堂中,老师是主要的课堂讲述者。而在演讲与辩论的课堂中,学生成为了主要的讲述者,通过一系列的课堂活动,督促学生有意识地纠正个人发音上的瑕疵,使个人的表达更加流畅。
其次,很多学生在学习中发现,仅仅做到发音标准,对于演讲和辩论来说还远远不够。如何做到言之有物,如何做到言之有理,都还需要学生掌握丰富的信息。而阅读可以给学生带来这些丰富的材料。在学生准备演讲与辩论的过程中,会阅读大量的中英文资料,在此过程中,学生的阅读能力也得到了提升。
第三,英语演讲与辩论还可以提高学生的写作水平。演讲稿和辩论词不同于一般的应试作文,也不是简单的词汇堆砌和句子排列,而是如何将个人思想有逻辑性地、有条理性地展示给自己的听众。因此成功的演讲与辩论都是以好的演讲稿和优秀的辩论词为基础的。在撰写演讲词时,学生需要考虑如何有效地运用自己所掌握的资料,形成逻辑性鲜明、感染力强的文字。同时为了保证自己在讲述时思维的清晰,学生还需要思考如何将文章内容有条不紊、条理清楚地展开。在反复推敲,反复修改个人演讲稿的过程中,对学生写作能力的提高无疑是有效的。
3 . 英语演讲与辩论课程对交际能力的提高
在英语演讲与辩论课程中,笔者所采取的是以学生为主的互动性教学。因此在教学中,会通过小组展示(presentation)和讨论会(seminar)的形式让学生充分地参与课堂教学。在小组展示中,为了使本小组有好的表现,各个成员之间要进行有效地合作,因此英语演讲与辩论课程可以有效地激发学生积极与他人沟通与协作的能力。辩论活动更是需要小组成员的合作默契,才能快速、准确地找到对方的失误和不严谨之处。在课堂教学中,学生会自由组合自己的小组成员,笔者会引导学生找到各自的优劣势,随后学生通过彼此的交流和讨论,决定每个成员在小组中所承担的人物和角色,尽量让每个成员都将个人的长处发挥到极致,尽可能多地得到老师和同学的赞许和认同。
如果说演讲者和辩手的个人准备属于主观环境准备的话,那么对于观众,场合、情景等因素的准备就属于客观环境的准备。而此过程也是主观环境和客观环境的交流。在课堂教学中,每一个小组展示完之后,笔者都会安排学生进行评价。评价的内容包括讲述内容、演讲者的肢体语言、与观众的交流等多方面进行,甚至有些学生还可以就演讲内容对演讲者进行提问。通过这个环节,演讲者可以清楚地了解自己的优势和缺点,帮助他们发掘自身的潜能。
从交流策略上来说,学生的心理素质也是影响交流效果的重要因素。而自信心是增强心理素质的重要砝码。在英语演讲与辩论课程中,学生的自信心是可以得到提高的。在公众场合,很多学生会出现语言表达能力不强、词不达意、怯场、焦虑等现象。在课堂教学中,笔者通过以下方面帮助学生建立自信心。首先通过课堂讨论,让学生充分认识到自己的优点和缺点;其次,通过一些真实案例,让学生明白怯场绝对不是个案,而是很多人都会出现的;再次,通过课堂的不断练习,附加老师和同学对于个人优势的赞许,从而让学生逐步克服个人的紧张和焦虑。在当代社会,自信心对于学生的学习和将来的工作都会产生重大的影响。因此,帮助学生提升他们的自信心和协作精神有助于他们面对未来的各项挑战。
4 . 英语演讲与辩论课程对思辨能力的提高
通过与学生的交流,笔者发现很多学生反映此课程学习的最大难点在于两方面。其一:在表达个人观点时,内容空泛、缺乏逻辑性;其二,在倾听他人观点时,只是被动地去接受他人的观点,很难对观点进行辨析。这两种现象除了表明学生语言能力上的缺失外,更多说明了学生在思辨能力上的匮乏。孔子曾经说过:“学而不思则罔,思而不学则殆。”因此如何培养学生的思辨性就成为了课堂教学的一个重点。思辨能力体现在对事物关系的清晰认知以及对他人观点的质疑上。在英语演讲与辩论课程的学习中,笔者会要求学生对话题进行分析,提出个人的观点,并提出相应适当的、有力的论证。其次,通过课堂讨论,要求学生提出他人观点的合理之处和不足之处,并就不足之处提出个人的看法。最后,请观点受到质疑的同学进一步阐释个人的观点。这样在听、问、说的过程中,学生的思想得到了碰撞,老师可以在此基础上鼓励他们去思考一系列的问题:该话题可以从哪些方面进行讲述?这些观点应该用哪些例证来进行支撑?哪些观点得到了大家的认同?哪些观点受到了质疑?这些观点为什么会被反驳?反驳的观点是否正确?可以从哪些方面进一步阐释个人观点?通过这样反复的练习,学生针对问题独立思考的能力以及提出个人观点的能力都能得到提高。
5 . 结语
英语演讲与辩论课程不仅仅是以提高学生语言能力为目标的课程,更多注重了学生的语言运用能力、交际能力以及认识问题、分析问题和解决问题的思辨能力等综合素养的提升。所以英语演讲与辩论课程的教学,不仅有利于学生专业技能的提高,更有利于将学生培养成为符合现代社会需求的高素质复合型人才。
