由于文化的差异，不同的语言对同一作品的表述有一定的差别，会传达出不同的意思。而翻译作为跨文化交际的沟通桥梁，必须要尽可能地展现出原著的风采，译文必须与原文保持高度的相似，因此，译者需要有翻译技巧，对译文进行润饰。在英语文学的翻译中，以下几点技巧起着十分重要的作用。

1.正确处理文化差异

翻译英语文学，就是将英文单词翻译成相对应的中文词组，同时要保持整体含义一致，保证读者能够准确地理解英语文学作品的含义。要做到这一点，首先要学会正确处理中西方文化的差异。在翻译英语文学作品的过程中，译者会遇到不同的体裁和内容，这就要求在翻译的过程中要针对不同的体裁，采取正确的措施科学处理文化差异，从而保证英语文学的翻译质量。对于小说、诗歌、散文类作者独立创作的文学性和艺术性较强的英语文学作品，译者在翻译时首先要分析作品中所提到的文化背景、文化氛围，将其与中文语境进行对比，找出两种文化的差异，在翻译时将重点放在和谐文化差异上，并对其进行深入理解和对比，保证译文既忠于原文，又符合汉语阅读习惯。对于科技应用文的翻译，译者要先分析文中的叙述重点，了解文化背景和文化元素，并将其与中文的文化元素相对比找出差异，然后按照中文的阅读习惯来翻译，注意对专业术语和科技词汇要准确翻译，保证用词的准确性，从而提高译文的质量。

2.遵循“合理归化”原则

在翻译英语文学时，准确地传达原文的文化内涵和意境，需要遵循一定的翻译原则，其中“合理归化”就是一条较为重要的原则。“归化是指在翻译中以目的语和目的语的文化作为依托，并以译文和译文读者为中心的一种翻译原则。”“合理归化”就是在英语文学的翻译中，译者始终着眼于中文文化，将英语文学中中文读者较为陌生的成分和文化因素转化为读者比较熟悉的中文文化内容，让译文符合中文读者的语言表达习惯，让中文读者能够全面、深入地感受到英语文学的魅力和中文文化的妙趣，将“ spring up like mushrooms”译为“雨后春笋”，又如钱钟书在翻译《安东尼和克里奥佩特拉》时，将“Fie wangling Queen—— /Whom everything becomes， to chide， to laugh，/T oweep；who se every passion fully striver/To make itself， in thee， air and admired”译为“嗔骂，嘻笑，啼泣，各态咸宜，七情能生百媚”。这些翻译不仅完全译出了原文的含义，也彰显了原文的神韵，更传达出中国传统语言的魅力。

3.模糊性语言的翻译技巧

英语文学中存在很多模糊性语言，如something，由于中西方文化差异较大，译者在翻译英语文学作品的过程中如果不能准确地翻译模糊性的语言，会造成译文与原文的差异。在翻译模糊性语言时，译者要注意深入研究和分析原作，了解作品的文化背景，结合上下文，精确地翻译原文。如相同的颜色在不同的语言中表达不同的意思 “blackboard”是黑板“black tea”是红茶“to be brown”是晒黑了，等等。合理地运用语言的模糊性不仅能使译文更加顺畅，也能够增添译文的艺术效果。

4.双关语的翻译技巧

双关语是一种常用的修辞格，经常出现在各种英语文学作品中，它不仅能够增加作品的语言性，还能巧妙地刻画文学作品中的人物的性格和心理。在英语文学的翻译中，双关语也是较难翻译的修辞现象之一。对于英语文学作品中双关语的翻译，译者可以从四个方面入手。一是将双关语译为相同的双关语。为了保证译文能够精确地传达出原文所表达的内容、形式及其文化特色，译者可以将原文中的双关语直译为相同的双关语，如将“dead end”译为“死胡同”。二是将双关语译为类双关语。有时，在汉语中很难找到与英语原著中音形义相同的双关语，在这种情况下，译者应该尽可能在中文中选择与原著相近的语义或形式的类相关语来表述，如借助双声、头韵、重复、对偶、比喻等修辞手段，或同义词等手段，选择与原文有关联的词语。三是将双关语译为不同的双关语。在翻译双关语时，译者要注意变通，不拘泥于形式，在某些情况下可以稍微调整原文的语言格式，神似即可，但要注意改变其形却不能改变其主题思想和文化内涵。四是将双关语译为非双关语。对于那些很难在汉语中找到与原文相同或者相似或有关联的双关语，译者要抛弃原文的语义特征，采用不同的形式，复制出原文双关语的一层或多层含义。

5.典故的翻译技巧

典故经常出现在英语文学作品中。在翻译英语文学作品时，对典故的翻译可以采用直译法和直译加注释法。直译法就是译文要保持原文内容和形式，尤其是原文中的比喻或地方色彩等，如将“An eye for an eye，a tooth for a tooth”译为“以眼还眼，以牙还牙”。直译加注释法是指译文要在译出原文内容的同时，对典故中的人名和地名进行注解，如将“See Naples and die”直译为“看了那不勒斯，就可以死了”，读者会觉得莫名其妙，但如果译者在译文后面对“那不勒斯”进行注解“那不勒斯，意大利南部港市，以其奇美的风景而著称。”这句话的意思就一目了然了。
