Theodore Dreiser is the pioneer of the America literature in the 20th century;his novels had a deep influence to the early20th century literature.His novels had always accepted and appreciated for its naturalism viewpoint and realism attitude,at the same time he has also suffered lot of criticism even fierce attack.His writing truly reflected the real world,and a series of brilliant female images were flown in his works,in some degree,their splendor was overtaking the male.Jannie Gerhardt is Sister Carrie's sister works,it is also the least mentioned works of his,but its publication had received high praise from Macon,he commended Jannie Gerhardt:"Except the impassable work The Adventures of Hackberry Finn which like the lonely Himalayas,it is the most excellent American novel which I have read."[1](23)This work is also considered as a masterpiece in the naturalism work by the Chinese academic circles,most critics believe that it emphasizes the impotence of human beings in the environment and praises Jannie's sacrifice for others.
Jannie Gerhardt is about one woman and two man's love story,the heroine has situated in different environments and suffered a lot from hardships,she has experienced the love with the senator Brand,and then with the rich merchant's son Lester,but both of these two love experience are ended as tragedy.Jannie has sacrificed herself and paid all,and bear all the aftermath.Jannie's sacrifice is the outcome of Jannie's self choice and the demand of the value of the patriarchal concept society.

In a word,all these in Jannie are fit for the criterion for appreciation of the patriarchal culture.Besides,Jannie also has a concealed nature that is her love and thirst for life.These peculiarity of her has deeply enchanted the two heroes,thus the two complicated love experience performed.
Indeed,when Brand first came across with Jannie,her especially attractive appearance was deeply branded in Brand's brain her beauty and naturally diffused vitality had naturally become an object for Brand's desire,in contrast,political life and substances in the field of wealth and fame are mean nothing to the over 50 years old Brand,consequently,Brand suddenly raised tender affection for"the integration of poverty and beauty"[2]
1.2 Her Thirst for Happiness

We first talk from the novel's first heroin Brand,Says from the social position,he is a famous political circle character and a public celebrities,but in fact,"power"and"status"are the pronoun of wealth and money in Dreiser's novels.[1](19)It is not difficult to find that as soon as the novel's heroin Brand entered the stage,he is on an absolutely dominating status in him and Jannie's relations.Because of the function of sympathy,he did several things which made she and her family member delighted during their love process:he presented rich and varied Christmas gifts to them on the Christmas eve,which made her whole family so excited;gave clothes to her mother and her frequently;helped Gerhardt to Solve the work problem;delivered the golden watch to her;gave more reward for their laundry each week,all these has the content of sympathy and financial aid,Jannie was full of gratitude for what he had done for her and her whole family,what is more important,which caused her favorable impression to him grew stronger day by day.When some evening,Brand"unclasp her hands as a burst of impulse and pressed his bilabial on her cheek,"[2](73)from that time on,their relations deepened a new mark,"in any event you are always my woman."[2](109)he said like this and he also promised that he would marry her soon,thus their relationship became clear.
2.2 Firm Sentiment
Although,there are a great age disparity between Jane and Brand,and at the same time,their love is added with a certain extent of sympathizes,from the beginning to the end,her love to him was sincere and firm.They have lost themselves but actually unable to obtain the equal repayment in this unequal society.her love finally make her change into some kind of goods—the objec for man'desire or the housework tool.Jane this kind of image is what Lester need.He appreciated her beauty and kindness.She also satisfied with him to a certain extent,but it is mainly in order to satisfy his own request.

3 Break with the Heroes
3.1 The Self-sacrifice
This article reflected the injustice that the society for the female,it manifested obviously in her love tragedy,her love experience is worth us sympathizing deeply,Jannie had sacrificed for her family members and had won love for herself,to herself,the integration with the two heroes were all satisfied and happy.The author had not blamed them for the immoral premarital sex;he had also not arranged the happy possibility for their integration.
After Jane understood Lester's agitation and restless after he inherited the property,that was"his father had really cancelled his inheritance."[2](482)In fact she could have boss around the indecisive Lester originally,but she thought it was unfair for him besides,it had no advantage,and it was not bright.She also understood it was impossible for Lester to accept her because he was in the upper circles of the society,the virtuous moral outlook caused her to make the final decision,she won't let his large amount of money loss in any way,and she took a stand:"if you do not leave me,I will leave first."[2](467)they finally break up in ligh of this,and returned to their original life environment.
3.2 The Spiritual Lose
When Jannie saw the news about Brand's sudden death in the newspaper,she was pregnant,"she was still stand there blankly,until now,that news'true significance has constituted the coherent thought,she started to realize her deplorable and despair situation."[2](121)obviously,his death was a big psychological wound to her,sad、frighten、shame and despair.
Though Jannie and Lester'break up,we can also see Jannie's selflessness and Lester's selfish has formed sharp contrast he has not been able to fight against with the entire family and the entire social custom to the end,under the formidable resistance,in order to preserve his property,his power and influence and his dignity,he finally discarded his love to Jannie,and returned to their respective social classes.In fact,Lester lost little in this section of sentimental change,in one or two years since his break up with Jannie,no matter in the public relations field or in the business circle,his vigor in the human relations and the management has restored the youth vigor and became high-spirited again.But since then,Jannie spent her life in boundless loneliness and pain.
4 Conclusion
To sum up,this paper has analyzed Jannie's love experience and her unjust treatment in the sexual relations from three main aspects,I expect through this thesis,people could obtain a further understanding of the female's psychology world,their life values,their social status,or even the whole feminine world o the patriarchal society at that time.
In the 19th century,with the development of the American industrialization,the field for the male to display their ability has expanded,but woman's life domain became actually narrow,the family actually became the female'pen.The feminine status was defined in the narrow relationship between the feminine individual and the patriarchal family,the female could only realized their own value in their relationship with the female.
Jannie acted as one to sacrifice herself willingly and became the female's attachment,in a certain extent,her tragedy was inevitable.In brief,the woman image under the female writer's pen is finally transmit the aspiration of the patriarchal culture,this is a very important strategy for the male to rule the female,it is the reality that it consolidated the man—centered society by a fictionalized way.
The masculine rule,the masculine principle and the masculine thought,this kind of rule thought which were all accepted and admitted by the ruler and the ruled,we do not know this kind of dominant thought has harmed how many females.Only by the time we get rid of this kind of thought,can we eradicate the unequal sexual relations,can the female not in the sacrificed status forever,can they not always act as the fall guy's role.The sacrifice is the biggest strangle and exploitation for woman.
