提高英语听力水平是参加全国英语四级统考的考生密切关注的问题。首先应正确了解听力在大学英语学习中的重要地位。大学英语教学大纲中对听力部分已做出明确要求，要求学生能听懂英语授课几以及简短会话、谈话和讲座，其语速要求130-150wpm，且只有一遍；能抓住中心大意、要点及有关细节，领会讲话者的语气和观点，并根据所听内容在短时间内进行判断推理和综合概括。该项目被列为第一部分测试题，且占有相当大的比重，共二十分即总分的百分之二十。因此可以说四级英语考试中听力部分的表现是影响四级考试成绩的至关重要的一个环节。其次，应了解听力题型，掌握做题技巧。这是取得理想成绩的重要途径。全国大学英语四、六级考试委员会决定，从2016年6月考试起，将对四、六级考试的听力试题作局部调整，取消短对话，取消短文听写，新增英语篇短新闻。为适应四、六级英语听力水平能力测试要求，使考生尽快适应这一新的变化，进一步提高听力测试效果，笔者就如何提高英语短篇新闻听力水平做以如下探讨。

二、短篇新闻的特点

短篇新闻一般具有语音、词汇、句式和结构四大特点。

首先是语音特点。语音特点表现在一是语调。语调最能抓住听、观众的注意力。据统计，一般常用的语调大致可以归纳为11类：高升调、低升调、高降调、低降调、高降升调、低降升调、高升降调、低升降调、高升降升调、高平调和低平调，而且语调高低之间的音域为八度。一般来说，句子的开头使用高平调，句中则是高升调或低升调，句尾为高降调或低降调。二是重读和弱读。重读部分主要突出文中重要内容，发音时吐字清晰，音质浑厚，具有穿透力；弱读部分主要是虚词或语法意义大于语义的词组成，发音时又快又弱。三是连读。由于新闻报道的语速较快，所以连读出现的频率很高。连读可分为以下几种情况：1.辅音和元音之间的连读。2. r音与元音之间的连续。3.两个元音之间的连续。4.浊化、省略和缩读。

其次是词汇模式特点。一是面广量大。新闻词汇涉及政治、经济、文化、军事、科学等社会各个方面，使用的词汇常常超出学生所掌握的范围。此外还有大量专有名词，包括人名、地名、国家、政党组织、传媒机构、宗教、武器装备等。从样题上看增加的短文新闻难度到达了之前的六级考试，尤其是第一篇，讲的是索马里叛军制造的恐怖袭击事件，里边出现了大量的专有名词如肯尼亚、乌干达等等。二是创造新词。创造和采用新词新闻跑在时代的最前面，像录音机一样反映并记载了世界的发展和变迁。每逢新事物出现，与之相关的新词便会率先在新闻中露面。三是频繁使用缩略词。由于各种机构、组织、条约等的全称比较长，所以在英语新闻中经常使用缩略词。对于这些缩略词既要了解意思又要知道正确读音。

第三是句式特点。一是复杂。尤其是新闻导语部分，常常是一个扩展的SV（0）句型，满缀着从句、名词性修饰语、人名、地名以及表示时间、数量等的成份，而在听力理解的过程中，因为是开篇的第一句话，听者往往会因为一时没有进入状态而忽略了它。二是比较口语化。广播新闻是通过声音传播的媒介，所以同报纸新闻这一书面文字传播媒介相比，差异较大，句子中经常使用一些短小的比较口语化的词来代替较长的书面语。

第四是结构特点。一是“倒金字塔法”。它的特点是按新闻事实内容和重要性递减的顺序来安排全文。这样整篇新闻报道便形成了一个倒金字塔结构，即：将最重要、最生动、最能吸引人的新闻置于全篇的开头，称导语。次要的放在导语之后，依次排列。最次要的置于末尾。二是时间顺序法。时间顺序法顾名思义就是按照时问的先后顺序来报导的。按此结构写出的消息通常由开头、叙述的一系列新闻事实和结尾几个部分组成。这种报导方式的重要之处在于其主题一般放在最后，所以听者必须认真听其中的每一句话，才能更好的把握事实，了解全部。

三、短篇新闻的听力技巧

提高短篇新闻听力技巧有很多种方法，但笔者从事多年教学实践工作，认为要迅速提高短篇新闻听力水平，必须从以下几个方面着手：一是要熟记各类新闻英语中的常用单字。新闻英语单字很多，但实践证明，只要掌握五、六百个重复出现的单字，就可以听懂八成以上的新闻。二是要尽量先以自己熟悉的语言了解新闻内容。三是遇到听不懂的地方不要去想它，继续听下去。四是不要太在乎特殊难懂的人名及地名。五是要以正确的播报速度来学习。平时要听取专业的播音速度，这样思维才能跟上。六是要尽快锁定大概的新闻内容。七是要经常听，经常练习。八是不仅要“听”新闻，正确的“说”也很重要。
