一、理论依据

1972年, Richterich首先提出了外语教学中的需求分析模式[2], 之后这种需求分析模式在国外的外语教学中得到广泛应用, 包括应用于EFL教学中。需求分析可以帮助我们了解学生对于外语学习的需求, 分析学生的不足, 确定我们教学的总目标, 并由此寻找最适合我们学生英语综合能力发展的教学设计和教学手段, 真正做到以学生为中心的务实教学。对于需求的定义, Berwick指出需求可以指学生目前的学习要求及未来的工作要求[3]。这种以目标为导向的需求属于目标需求。Mountford认为需求可以被看作是外语使用者所处的整个社会环境和社会机制所认为是外语学习中有必要或者说是最好应该掌握的内容[4]。Robinson[5]认为可以把需求看作是“欠缺与不足”, 即学习者在学习和使用英语过程中所缺乏或感到缺乏的东西。

需求分析包括教学活动开始前和教学活动过程中对客观信息 (如外语学习者的个人情况, 学习目的和目前的外语水平) 和主观信息 (如学习者的学习态度, 学习偏爱, 需求与期望) 等的数据的收集[6]。需求分析属于实证研究范畴, 调查研究时最好结合这两种分析, 同时进行定性和定量研究, 弄清学生在外语学习中的得失、不足, 以及他们对学习的期待, 最终改进并提高我们的日常教学。

二、调查设计及结果分析

本调查通过问卷和访谈的形式, 对浙江宁波北仑明港中学的高一的学生进行调查, 旨在了解和分析学生对英语教师、学习策略、课内学习环境等相关因素的需求情况, 并检验不同学生 (男、女) 的学习需求是否存在显著差异。

本次调查的对象是四个班级的高一学生, 共计198名学生。学生刚刚进入高中学习, 调查表的发放选择了新学期的第一节英语课。问卷参考程晓堂对英语学习策略的分类, 包括41个调查项目, 涉及英语教师、元认知学习策略和课堂学习环境。问卷采用五点制里克特量表确定。很同意=1, 较同意=2, 基本同意=3, 不同意=4, 很不同意=5。随机发放问卷200份, 回收有效问卷198份。此外, 还对部分高一学生进行了访谈。调查后采用SPSS11.0对问卷的数据进行了统计分析。

1. 学生对英语教师的需求

外语教师的业务基本功如教学方法, 口语能力, 指导学生有效学习方法等都是学生要求教师所具备的, 另外, 教师对于学生的积极的情感态度也是大多数学生所希望的。在对于学生犯错时, 老师要不要批评学生, 学生的意见还是比较分散。另外, 对于作业量的多少, 学生的态度也是参差不齐。

2. 学生使用英语学习元认知策略调查

经验表明, 初中学生刚刚进入高中学习, 他们最需要马上培养的就是自主学习能力。而学生自主学习能力的发展主要体现在元认知策略的运用, 学生对学习过程的计划、监控和管理, 对学习结果的评价、学习策略的使用和自我调整[7]。元认知策略是培养学生自主学习的基础, 也是课程标准要求学生掌握的学习策略。

对学习策略的调查使用了“高一学生英语元认知学习策略问卷调查表”, 采用文秋芳的英语元认知策略调查表[8], 并结合Oxford[9], O'Malley[10]元认知策略的分类, 参考黄水美学习策略调查分析表做了相应改动[11]。问卷共有24个关于元认知策略描述的句子, 1~6题调查的是元认知知识, 7~16题为元认知体验, 17~24题为元认知技能。采用Likert Scale计分。每个句子后面都有5个选项:A.完全不符合我的实际情况。B.基本上不符合我的实际情况。C.有点符合我的实际情况D.大部分符合我的实际情况, E.完全符合我的实际情况。采用SPSS 11.0进行数据录入, 采用描述统计分析高一学生使用元认知策略的现状。显示结果如下:

依据统计分析的既定参考值, 把得分高于3.5看作学生具有某方面的特点, 把得分低于2.5看作学生不具备某些特点, 那么此次调查所显示的高一新生在元认知知识方面相对还可以, 而在元认知体验和元认知技能方面都偏低。

3. 学生对课堂环境的需求

课堂是我们教学和学生发展英语学习能力的的主阵地, 所以针对课堂环境也做了相应的问卷分析。设计如下:

从上表我们可以发现学生对课堂的最基本要求是教师的授课应该生动有活力, 教学活动的安排既要丰富多样同时也要符合他们的兴趣, 使他们有足够展示的机会。表中显示80%以上的同学希望在课堂上积极参与并展示自己, 但是还有部分学生在课堂上采取回避态度, 可能是因为对于自己的语言表达能力不太自信而更愿意做个倾听者。

从上表平均值的T检验可以看出, 学生在元认知策略上P值=0.004<0.05, 说明高一男女生使用元认知策略上存在着明显的差异, 男生使用学习策略比女生要低得多。这同他们的英语中考成绩所显示的总体学习水平相一致, 而在对英语教师和课堂环境的需求上, 高一学生都没有显示显著差异。

三、结论与建议

通过这次调查, 我们了解了高一新生在高中起始阶段的各方面需求。他们对我们的教学环境和教师的授课质量都充满了期待。但是很明显, 虽然经过了三年初中阶段的英语学习, 很多同学还不善于使用相应的学习策略来帮助提高自己的学习效率, 甚至有部分同学都不具备策略意识, 在学习上表现得极为被动。所以针对以上分析, 做出如下应对建议:

1. 教师应重视指导学生总结最适合自己的学习方法。

2. 教师要经常走近学生, 了解学生的学习需求, 在高中学习初期不断激发学生的学习兴趣, 培养学生自主学习的能力, 同时教师自身要提高自己的教学业务水平, 实现英语教师专业发展。

3. 教师要随时注意男女生在英语学习方面的差异, 使学生的英语学习持续稳定地进行。

摘要:本文在简述了需求分析的涵义和发展的基础上, 通过对浙江宁波一所普通高中高一新生的英语学习需求进行量化调查, 提出英语教师应该根据学生的需求改进自己的教学方式, 促进教学的实效性。
