笔者在农村中学从事英语教学已经二十六年了，笔者认为每个英语学习者在学习英语的过程中，背诵英语课文是必不可少的，对于那些刚刚上初一的中学生来说更是至关重要的。学生在日常生活中听到的、看到的、与人交流的都是普通话或是地方方言；即使学了英语，也是“哑巴英语”；因为学生平时的校园生活中几乎不开口说，更谈不上说是运用了；可见，学生也就很难从生活中得到锻炼说英语的机会了。学生由于平时很少说英语，课堂上所学的英语口语，除了早读课外，其他的时间也很难运用、复习巩固和提高。

背诵英语课文几乎可以不受学习环境的影响，对学习环境的依赖较小，容易得到保证。教师只要给学生指定背诵的内容，学生就可以在课外时间一个人完成。背诵英语课文是提高学生练习英语口语能力的好方法，也是克服学生“哑巴英语”的有效途径之一。背诵英语课文同样也不受时间的限制。它不需要学生专门用大量的时间来完成，有比较灵活的特点，学生可以自由选择朗读和背诵的时间，课前课后，甚至于在上学和放学的路上都可以。

可见在初中阶段，初一的英语教学中一定要重视指导学生背诵英语课文，初一是学生学习英语的入门阶段，农村学生刚刚接触英语，对英语还有一定的好奇心，学习兴趣还是比较浓厚的；笔者认为抓住这个时机，通过各种行之有效的教学方法，指导学生大声朗读英语，熟练地背诵英语课文，以及常用的句子和一些习惯用语，为今后的学习英语打好坚实的基础，而对于那些基础不是太好的或是性格内向的学生，降低他们的学习标准，当学生取得一点点小小的进步，老师都要用欣赏的目光去看待他们，用温馨的言语去鼓励他们，让他们感到通过自己的努力学习，也会得到老师的认可，这样他们也就有了成就感，这对以后的教与学将十分有益。
