1.提前准备好面试资料

2.听录音练习口语。

练习的材料选定后，彻底地先把材料中的陌生单词，用法，意思去解决，这也有技巧，孰轻孰重，但这不是今天要探讨的话题。这些工作做停当以后，我们就要学着把那些句子，用法搬进口语。第一步就是朗读。从书面到口头的转换首先出现了一个问题：语音语调。为什么很多学中文的老外说起中文，意思可以很对，但中国人一听就知道是老外？这就是老外们的语音语调把握不好，这种情况也称不上地道的中文。学习英语亦然。我推荐掌握语音语调最简单的方法：听录音模仿。不要着急，一句一句，注意仔细辩别其中的停顿，升降调，重读，省略等。记不住还可以在书上作上记号么，自己想一些点子。量变终究导致质变，如同说母语般说地道的英音，美音都是可能实现的。

4.通过实战提高。

英语口语是种工具，是在人们口中说的。不仅我们需要单个的口若悬河，更需要在与别人的交流中学习，实践，提高。在与人，特别是老外对话前临时准备一些常用句型，问候语，习惯语，也是可以起到稳牢阵脚的作用哦。其实在实际过程中，你会发现你最“惧怕”说话的老外从不会从语法角度去和你计较，只要能够顺畅的交流，有了平时语音语调的积累，往往他们的大拇指还会高高竖起，夸你的英语“excellent”哦。真美啊！多次这样的经历对于你来说就是一种自信的源泉。有了自信，万事迎刃而解。

【Abstract】As is known to all， the aim of an interview in spoken English is simply to testify an interviewees integrated English language proficiency. And a variety of training programs for spoken English at all levels in some way are of a great help to college students to improve their spoken English， to cultivate their capability in critical thinking， thereby setting a good pavement for their future career development. While in process of achieving this ultimate goal efficiently， how to make a good use of paralanguage to help enhance their performance in an English interview seems increasingly important and has been drawing the focus of many teachers of English in recent years. The writer in this essay， according to his latest raw material， has concisely stated the role of paralanguage and some problems arising， together with the target solutions to them in an interview.

一、引言

如何正確地通过非语言交际方式（non-verbal communicative skills）来反映真实的语言水平，是口语教师们一直探讨的棘手问题。笔者多年来致力于各类口语面试或演讲比赛辅导培训，尤其是在辅导高校语言类特招生的口语面试考前培训方面，积累了大量的实践经验与体会。近年经作者辅导过的石家庄市外国语学校及其它语言类特招生近乎百分之百地如愿以偿，他们在面试中均取得了斐然的好成绩。

二、如何正确理解副语言

1.副语言与真语言的区别。

（1）在搞清副语言之前，我们首先要知道与之相对应的真语言概念。真语言也称有声语言（verbal language），它是最基本的语言交际能力。就口语测试而言，主要包括语音语调、流利度、轻重读音节、意群节奏、抑扬顿挫、失去爆破和不完全爆破、用词的准确性等等，这些均是测试官对有声语言考查的重点。诚然，冰冻三尺非一日之寒。有声语言需要习语者平日悉心地细化与强化训练才能达到理想的效果。

（2）副语言（Para-language）是一种较为真实的思想情感的表达，是人类一种不自觉的行为语言，有狭义和广义之分。狭义“副语言”指有声音的现象，臂如说话时的喘声，哑音，笑声，鼻音，低音及讲话的不连贯等等。这些都是伴随话语而又对话语产生影响的语言；广义的“副语言”指无声而有形的一种现象，即体态语，包括手势、体姿、面部表情、对话时的距离位置等，这些语言一般具有配合真语言增强表达能力的作用。

2.本文强调的副语言。笔者在本文着重强调了在口语面试过程中以任何辅助形式表现出来的技能性语言（paralanguage or non-verbal language），主要包括：目光交流、面部表情、站姿、抑扬顿挫、反应速度，气质体现，包括面试者当天的个人着装等等。

三、副语言在口语面试中的表现方式

1.副语言在口语面试中的反映。副语言可以表达语言的特定含义，代表着一个人的地位和性格。在与面试官的交流过程时，同样的一句话，仅仅因为使用了不同的副语言而导致面试官产生不同感觉的事例比比皆是。如，面试官往往倾向于把口误较多的考生感知为紧张，把说话流畅声音响亮感知为自信；把说话语无伦次的人感知为缺乏自信；把语速慢、音调低感知为呆板。

2.在口语面试中应注意的事项。笔者根据多年的辅导经验，认为考生在口语面试过程中应注意以下事项：

（1）礼貌与修养（courtesy）。受试者进入考场时，应热情主动地与面试官打招呼，这样做显得有礼貌有素养。有的考生不知如何向考官打招呼和鞠躬，即使鞠躬也是动作匆忙，给人以敷衍之感。中国是礼仪之邦，鞠躬符合中国人的文化归属，只要考生表现出真诚礼貌，肯定会给考官或观众留下良好的第一印象。

（2）肢体语言（body-language），包括手势语和体势语。众所周知，在面试过程中，肢体语言运用得当可以更好地帮助受试者表达自己的观点和情感。笔者赞同用适量的手势语和体势语辅助表达思想。据笔者观察，许多考生在面试过程中，肢体显得呆板与僵硬，或显得局促不安，或根本就没有肢体动作，这均会给评判官或观众以毫无活力之感。

如考生能根据具体的语言内容配以适度的手势语和体势语，都能恰到好处地表达出受试者的思想感情内容。具体在语言中什么地方穿插这些动作，要视语言材料的具体内容而定。过多则显夸张，过少则显机悈呆板。

如果考生面临的是中国考官，最好动作不要过分夸张，否则会给考官留下傲气十足、目中无人之感。这是因为略显谦和是中国文化的美德。如果你面临的是西方考官，可尽显魅力，表达自信，因为西方文化对“个人主义”的包容度大于中国文化。

（3）目光交触（eye-contact或eye-tracking）。与考官和观众保持良好的目光交流很重要，因为它传达了受试者的真诚信息。眼神交触不够会导致负面影响，比如有的考生或演讲者眼睛一直向下看或直勾勾地盯着天花板，表现出羞涩或忐忑不安的心理情绪等。这一点对于西方考官显得尤为敏感。因为在西方文化里，目光交触是真诚沟通的标志。

注意，笔者在这里需要强调的是“适度”，在面试过程中也应避免直勾勾地盯着面试官，尤其是针对中国面试官，因为在中国的文化里这样做常常会让人感知有强烈的“对抗性”。

（4）面部表情（facial expression）能对考生所谈论的内容起到相辅相成的作用。许多面试者或演讲者讲英语没有任何面部表情。面目表情呆滞让人感知考生没有达到语言运用自如的境地。如果你面对的是外国考官，更要注意这一点，因为西方考官对考生面部表情的感知度较高；如果遇到的是中国考官，面部表情可不必表现得那么夸张。

（5）声音（voice）。声音太小透露出受试者的不自信心态，尤其是女性考生更应注意这一点。当然考生也不必音量过大，尤其是男性考生。适当的自然的音量和声调会给评判官留下淡然平和的良好印象。

教师在平时培训考生时应特别关注学生的音质开发及发声训练，有意识地矫正其音域的宽窄度。好的音质，单听声音就是一种享受，那样考生就比较容易折服评判官或听众对他（她）的认可度。

（6）抑扬顿挫（rhythm）。面试者要学会运用停顿和强调来表达自己的观点，展示自己对语言的把握力，并有相应的情感反应。我们注意到西方人讲英文时，他们的语速、音调会随语言的内容表现出丰富的思想感情，或潺潺流水，或慷慨激昂。当他们需要强调某个片段时，语速会突缓下来，而后又立即拉紧引擎直流而上，高高入云。这一点跟我们的汉语语言表达技能是一致的。

（7）得体的服饰。装扮会给面试者增色加分。根据笔者多年的辅导经验及现场观察，衣着得体，干净整洁，修剪合适的发型，配戴体面的眼镜，与考生体型身材相配的衣着款式，包括服饰的色调搭配等等均能够非常有效地提升面试者的气质与形象。

常言道，人是衣服馬是鞍，三分长相七分打扮，讲的就是这个道理。作者在这里尤其强调的是鞋裤搭配，无论男女应试者，均建议以深色鞋裤打底，配以靓丽的上装，更能提升面试者的个人形象与气质。男性面试者要注意着装的潇洒，尽量显露出血气的方刚美；女性面试者要注意衣着的稳重大气美，凸显出东方女性的阴柔活力，切勿浓妆艳抹，另类打扮。许多应试者感叹自己的自然形象不佳，如个子不高，长相不够漂亮或帅气。诚然，靓丽的外表或潇洒的形象确实能够给人以美的视觉效应，但只要我们通过得体的服饰打扮定能在一定程度上弥补面试者外形上的某些不足。反之，不注意这些，纵然你天生丽质或魁梧高大，也未必能给面试官和观众留下美好的印象。

（8）注意站姿。笔者观察发现，许多应试者在面试过程中，小动作太多，尤其是站姿，或左右摇晃，象水蛇腰，或抓耳挠腮，显得局促不安。其实这些种种表现都是不自信或怯场的表现，也可能是长期不注意而养成的坏习惯所致。理想的站姿应是女性优雅，男性洒脱。这一点与上面所述的得体的服饰搭配相得益彰，需要两者紧密结合。

（9）个人卫生形象。面试官，尤其是西方面试官往往比较注意面试者或演讲者的个人卫生面貌（personal grooming）。在西方，个人卫生是个十分敏感的潜意识文化。如果一个面试者口腔不清爽，身体散发着强烈的刺激性异味等，极有可能给评判官留下不良的印象。臂如，有的考生面试前刚刚吃完大蒜就匆匆上场，或吃了其他带有强烈刺激性味道的食物（如榴莲），都将会令西方考官难以忍受。相比之下，中国的考官对此现象的包容性稍强一些。

四、副语言在口语测评中的比值

副语言虽不像有声语言有着明确的评分细则，但在整个口语面试过程中确实对评判官有着强烈的视觉冲击力及心理测评定势。副语言所传递出的信息往往非常微妙复杂，并常常即兴影响着考官的评判心理。考生在整个口语面试过程中所表现出的副语言往往会综合影响着评判官的评分标准，这一点类似于英国雅思考试中对作文的全局性评分标准（global scoring）。单靠夯实的真语言功夫常常未必能拿到理想的名次或达到预期的效果与目标。

如果考生能够注意到本文所提及到的诸多副语言事项，充分展示出面试者或演讲者的个人魅力与气质（personal glamour），定会给考官留下耳目一新，眼前一亮的感觉，从而达到理想的面试效果。

一、大学生英语口语存在的问题

（一）掌握的词汇量较少

不同于阅读和写作，英语口语所需要的是一些高频的、日常脱口而出的情境化词汇。CET4要求的词汇量在4500左右，据调查显示，英语口语中使用的词汇仅为个人所掌握词汇的15%，也就是说一个通过大学四级的考生的口语词汇量不足700个。可见词汇量不足是大学生口语能力弱的根源之一。

（二）应试教育不注重大学生口语能力的培养

对于非英语专业学生来说，一般四六级不考口语，所以学校没有系统的教材和针对性的口语课，导致学生和教师忽视了英语口语的重要性。

（三）缺乏真实的语言交流环境

交际教学法主要是指采用语义大纲的语言教学,旨在培养学生的语言交际能力,重视学生在语言习得中的作用,强调外语教学应针对学生具体的语言需要来培养其言语交际能力。学习的目的是为了交际。而在课堂上，学生的口语操练一般都是机械化的非情境化的模仿，缺少创造性，不利于语言的交流。

（四）学生的畏惧心理

由于平时练习口语的机会较少，多数学生都有畏惧开口说英语的情绪，心理作用也会影响学生英语口语水平的正常发挥。

二、交际策略和话语技巧的含义

交际策略和话语技巧是话语者在对英语词汇和语法掌握有限的基础上，为达到较好的交际目的，而采用的一系列策略和技巧。交际策略和话语技巧是相辅相成的；交际策略是话语技巧的前提，前者是后者的理论支撑，而话语技巧的使用有助于更好地实现交际策略。交际策略是指交际者根据实际情况，也就是在交际条件不充足的情况下而采取的应变措施。对外语学习者来说在一定场合要用外语交际, 有时又无法用适当的词语进行表达, 为此而有意识地使用某种语言或非语言的手段去解决交际中出现的障碍。这种手段称为交际策略, 它分为目的语策略( 迂回说法、创造新词、用近似词) 、知识策略( 指学习者联系自己的常识和经验进行交际) 、重复策略、求助策略、手势策略和回避策略。语言的运用是学习语言的最终归宿，也是学习语言成功的保证。受文化差异和语言学习水平的影响，当代大学生英语口语水平较低。使用交际策略和话语技巧为更加顺畅地进行交流提供了保证。交际策略和话语技巧对大学生在用英语交际时具有显著作用：通过手势、回避、重复、迂回等方法，可以帮助他们更好地应对词汇量贫乏、文化差异等所导致的冷场，使他们信心倍增，更好地进行交流。

三、大学生英语口语交际策略与话语技巧的培养

（一）树立良好的意识观

任何话语都要以交际目的为前提，也就是为了更好地沟通而说漂亮话。一个会说话的成功者，知道在什么时候该以怎样的方式说话。说话的关键是要选准方式。词真意切的“真”话，产生震撼人心的力量；旁敲侧击的“隐”话，留给人醒悟的余地；以柔克刚的“软”话用忍让的方式赢得人心；幽默诙谐的“俏”话，拉近双方的心理距离；以变应变的“活”话，尽显语言的机智灵活。而话的好坏，取决于话语者的策略和技巧的运用。大学生开口说英语往往是能想到什么就说什么，忽略了交际策略和话语技巧。所以越是能够灵活运用交际策略和话语技巧，越是能够和他人更好地沟通。所以为了更好地交流，首先要培养学生的交际策略和话语技巧的意识。

1.加强教师的策略指导意识。教师是课堂上的主导者，要想让学生更好地运用交际策略和话语技巧，首先需要教师有意识地引导和帮助，引起学生的重视，让学生学会在交际困难时需要何种策略和技巧帮其渡过难关。在单纯的机械口语练习中，学生是无法掌握要领的。如“求助”策略，教师可以用以下方法来帮助学生进行强化。

这时教师可以引用B的回答，来讲述下这个句子的用法。它可以用在对方说话没有听清，或是不相信对方说的话，以及抱歉的意思。这样在无意中就会加深学生对知识的理解和运用。“回避策略”是交际策略中常见的一种。它主要是为了避开所谈话题而言其它的一种策略。这常与文化习惯相联系。当谈及一些敏感话题时，经常采用“回避策略”。

B: Well, it's an interesting question, but I don't care about it.

对话中B巧妙地回避了关于薪资的话题，并转移到了工作环境的问题上。当日常碰到类似不能直接回答的问题时，我们都可以采用这种策略。所以教师要在对话中给学生以示范，让学生能够举一反三，学会这种策略和技巧。例如在谈到年龄时，如果不方便或是不喜欢告知自己的年龄，可以用非正面的方式告诉对方，或是直接婉转地拒绝对方的问题，将话题引开。教师有意识地向学生展示，慢慢地学生就会在练习中得以模仿和进一步创新。

2.加强学生的策略运用意识。在教师的反复举例和指导下，学生学会了某种或某几种交际策略和话语技巧，并且在潜移默化中习得了策略运用意识，他们就会在话语中展示这种策略和技巧。以“拖延策略” 为例：

当被问及到一个比较复杂或是从未准备过的问题时，回答者没有做好心理准备，又为避免尴尬，争取时间调整思路、理清逻辑时，可以用拖延这一策略。如：as far as I am concerned...well, it's hard to see...这样既会使语流顺畅，又给人真诚对待问题慎重回答的感觉。

（二） 培养学生的跨文化交际能力

所谓跨文化交际指的是在不同语言背景下的人际交往。由于交往习俗、社会心理、价值观念等方面的不同，中国学生在进行英文口语对话时会碰到一些文化差异带来的问题。例如，“狗”一字在中文中多是贬义词，如“狗嘴吐不出象牙”“狗眼看人低”等；而在西方“狗”是忠诚和勇敢地象征，如“Love me love my dog”（爱屋及乌），因此培养学生的跨文化交际能力对于提高学生的交际策略和话语水平具有至关重要的作用。

首先，扩充书本关于外国的文化和习俗的知识。跨文化交际日益频繁，大学英语教材增加了许多与我国文化相差异的外国文化和习俗等，这有益于培养学生的跨文化交际能力。涵盖丰富的英语国家文化背景知识的教材是学生习得英语文化、交际策略和话语技巧的重要来源之一。教材不但要注重英美国家文化背景知识，也要涵盖关于一些较为通俗的日常英语。如中国人在碰到熟人后通常用“吃了吗？”来作为寒暄用语，如果放在英语国家就会闹出笑话。教材可以列举出一些比较地道的英美问候用语，如Hey,guy. What's up?这样就会使学生有章可循，继而用更加地道的英语进行交流。

其次，给予学生更多的实践机会。正所谓实践出真知。只有通过实践，才能提高学生的英语口语表达能力，习得更多的跨文化背景知识，深切领悟交际策略和话语技巧，从而达到优化的效果。应给予学生更多的机会与母语是英语的外国人多交流，感受他们的思维方式、语言技巧和文化习俗。在练习英语口语时，教师应设置较为真实的场景，如在餐馆就餐时，学生需要扮演不同角色挑选餐馆、点菜、评价食物、付款。或者还可以采用人物访谈、看图说话、英语戏剧、英语影评、英语即兴演讲、英语辩论等形式来实践。这样可以避免机械的、无意识练习，有助于学生融入情境中更好地展开交流。
