二、怎样写好个人陈述（PS）
1、长度上需短小精悍
PS应该是一种既短小又精悍的文体。一般来说一篇PS的正常长度应该在六百到八百个英文单词之间，不宜过多，也不宜过少。而仍然有相当多的申请者选择写一篇超长的PS，甚至有些学生所写的PS字数达到三千多字。他们想要将自己的各个方面的优点和成绩呈现出来。但是PS不是个人简历的详细补充，有许多的信息都可以通过其它得文件来展示。在留学申请的旺季，面对堆堆积如山的申请文书，一般审查一个PS的时间只有短短的2、3分钟，而那种冗长的PS只会让审核者心生厌烦。
2、内容上需包括6个why
即你为什么有兴趣在这个行业？哪些事情促使你对这个专业的兴趣不断增加加深? 为什么觉得此专业在未来很重要？为什么会选择这所学校？有哪些具体的研究经历和研究项目吸引你？你认为自己对该研究领域有没有价值？
3、主线上需紧扣主题
PS写作时须紧扣所要申请的专业的主题，主线要清楚明确，不能盲目的追求个性化。许多申请者都认为PS需要“独特”和“煽情”，因此想尽办法地挖掘自己的“独特”点和乱“煽情”，结果往往事半功倍，如果一篇PS中使用了大段篇幅写一些摸不着主题的个性，那么在招生者眼中，这根本是在做无用功。必须明确，PS这样一篇短短数百字的文章是没有地方去说不相干的废话的。
三、留学生的心得体验
1、看你是什么专业，如果理工科的学生需要突出对于科研经历和收获的描述，如果是文科和商科就要突出自己的特色跟能力，如果你有精彩的故事可以讲，对方录取的人也会喜欢，毕竟他们天天申材料，已经烦的不能再烦了。

1、PS的长度
在欧美，PS归为ESSAY（漫谈）类，是一种短小精悍的文体。笔者曾深入研究过欧美出版的优秀PS文选，无不短小精悍，内容却非常丰满，文笔优美。一般来说一篇PS的正常长度为600—800英文单词，而相当多的中国申请人的PS超长。笔者甚至见到某些人的PS写到3千多字。很多中国申请人试图 把自己的方方面面的优点和成绩展示出来，须知PS不是简历的详细补充，许多信息可以通过其它文件展示，（如学习成绩等）。美国大学的招生人员曾谈到：在留 学申请旺季时，面对堆堆积如山的文件，一般他们审查一个PS的时间只有2，3分钟，那种长篇大论类的PS只能让人心生厌烦。
2、PS必须紧扣所要申请那个专业的主题写，主线要明确，不要盲目的个性化
许多人都一知半解地听说PS需要“独特个性”（unique），和”煽情“（Emotional）,因此挖空心思地找自己的“独特“点和乱“煽情“，结果往往南辕北辙，许多多中国申请人往往用大段篇幅写一些不相干的个性，在招生者眼中，这完全不着边际（make no sense）。
必须明确，PS这样一篇短短数百字的文章是没有地方去说不相干的废话的。通过PS你必须让招生者知道你选择该专业的明确和强烈的动机，同时具备充分的条件完成该专业的学习。当然在这个基础上每个人都可以通过很独特而有个性 的文字来表达自己。如笔者曾经修改过一份申请 CS（计算机专业）的PS，原文用了数百字描述他如何开展班级工作的经历。笔者将其改为：
我喜欢思考，如何让事物运转得更有效率。在大学期间担我担任班级文艺委
员职务。在工作初期，成员经常因为性格，工作方式各异产生矛盾。后来我根据每个 人情况，让性格外向，善于人交际的人做外联及工作将协调沟通的工作；让善于思考，思维活跃，勇于创新的人做各项工作的筹备及策划工作；让有远见，有凝聚力 的人做整个工作的进度安排，及分配各项任务。这样安排的结果是系统发挥了最佳效率。
这样既突出了个性，又紧扣申请CS专业应具有的严谨的系统思维能力这一重要素质体现了出来。
3、结构简单，衔接紧密，主线明确，便于理解
“Simple is the best ”请记住，招生人员每天要读大量的申请资料，只有那种简单有力重点突出的的文章才能打动招生人员。留学文书其实是您个人的广告，您仔细想想，给您留下深刻 印象的广告哪个不是简明而有力的？中国申请人往往倾向于把自己的优点不分主次全都告诉招生人员，导致的结果就是招生人员对你的整体印象的模糊。笔者认 为，PS中什么都是重点，就等于没有重点。
4、精心安排PS和其它文件的关系
如上所述，PS，推荐信，简历等文件构成一整套申请文件系统，既需要相互应证，也需要这些文件各有侧重点。因此在写作这些文件之前必须总体构思安排文 章的布局和每个文件突出的重点。许多申请人将本该由简历或推荐信突出的内容放在PS中，这样不但造成信息的无效重复，同时弱化了PS应起的作用。
5、语言表达层面上一定要用地道的英语
一、定义与目的
简历为针对特定的对象（公司、学校、职务、学位等）选取与目标相关的个人资料，以一全页或两全页的篇幅呈现。制作过程步骤如下：
1. 数据搜集(了解目标对象需要或想要了解的)。
2. 计划(排版设计、数据呈现顺序及比例等)。
3. 换位思考(以自问自答方式推敲出对方可能会有的疑虑并适时说明)
4. 自我审计(以客观方式审视自己是否具有获选面试的机会或资格，或者是否足够引起他人的好奇心)。
简历写作的目的：
1. 说服人事部门等书面资料审查者给你面试的机会。
2. 说服面试者，例如：人资部门、空缺职位部门主管、老师等，你是否适合该空缺职位的人选或是值得培养。
3. 塑造个人专业形象以及建立个人可信度。
4. 提供个人流利且精准书写能力的证明。
二、何时开始准备简历
大部分同学的第一份简历都是在大学或研究所毕业前夕才开始写，实际上简历的用途广泛，凡是有需要提供个人资料、记录或成果的时机，都需要简历，所以应该尽早准备；而且为了提出一份好的简历，修改数十次也不为过。换句话说，比较好的习惯应该是从大一起就开始累积自己的简历内容，维持一份简历档案，时时更新。
一般是为了以下三种主要用途，会开始准备简历：
1. 求职：一般求职、打工、寒暑假实习等。
2. 争取机会：奖学金申请、研究所、申请指导老师、交换学生申请。
3. 自我审视：不为特定用途，而是作为一个自我审视的工具，将个人所有成果、经历作清晰完整的纪录，以作为将来求职的数据库，切记随时更新！
鼓励各位同学无论是否有立即的需求，平日都应该准备妥自己的简历资料，以应不时之需，也可随时审视自己的成长纪录。
三、如何准备与累积资料
简历的准备是要从平时就养成累积资料的好习惯。以下几种方式供你参考：
1. 保持一个电子文件随时记录个人的经历与成就，将所有数据按照重要性分门别类妥善管理。
2. 用一个文件夹/袋完整保存所有书面数据与证明。就像是活动参加证明、奖状、结业证书、报告、作品集…等等，以备日后参考或是做为附件证明。
3. 如果有各种比赛或者参加其他活动，可以请主办单位开相关证明或其他类似文件，才不会到了大四才要求开具三年前的活动证明，造成主办单位的困扰。
此外，要清楚纪录活动、比赛，以及主办单位的`正式中英文名称，若是没有公开正式的英文名称，应立刻请教主办单位，以避免自己随便翻译，写错或误拼活动与单位的名称或头衔。
四、如何扩展简历的内容
了解简历的目的的后，接下来就要开始思考什么样的内容可以放进简历，可以为自己加分，赢得面试的机会，以下为几个准则：
1. 分析出空缺工作的职务叙述，以了解相关信息。
2. 判断你个人所拥有的资格、技能、经验是否符合该空缺工作的需求资格。
3. 透过真实经验的说明来证明你所拥有的技能。
注意一：写下每一项说明后，都尝试换个角度，站在雇主或老师的立场思考你现有的文字资料，是否能突显或表达你所具备的能力或人格特质。
注意二：对每一项学、经历或个人成果都应尽量提供完整的信息：包含人（如：工作职称、或计划主持人姓名）、事（如：职务内容或活动性质）、时（起止时间）、地（发生地点，尤其是国外地点）、目标（如：参加理由及所设定的目标）以及方式（如：所运用或培养的技能、定的流程步骤），以增加对方对你的认识以及个人资料的可信度。
