在某些词组性质的习语中,所出现的介词在搭配上是固定的,如be consistent with, respond to , show insight into等。

The trial was conducted in ---------- manner, full of ---------- .

(A) an incredible ... proper procedure

(B) a negligent ... sworn testimony

(C) a judicial ... spectacular denouements

(D) a theatrical ... extravagant histrionics

(E) an outrageous ... erudite citations

There was a ---------- all about the estate, and the ---------- concerned the guards.

(A) pall ... shroud

(B) focus ... scrutiny

(C) hush ... quiet

(D) coolness ... temper

(E) talent ... genius

The proponents of recombinant DNA research have decided to ___ federal regulation of their work; they hope that by making this compromise they can forestall proposed state and local controls that might be even stiffer.

protest

.

Although it does contain some pioneering ideas, one would hardly characterize the work as BLANK。

A. orthodox

B. eccentric

C. original

D. trifling

E. conventional

F. innovative

(1)空格前面为冠词、形容词或者及物动词的,空格处应填入名词;

(2)空格后面是动词的,空格处应填入该动词的主语(名词);

(1)空格前面已经有名词/代词作主语,后面又有名词/代词作为动词的宾语,空格处应为及物动词;

(2)空格前面是名词/代词,后面没考试*大有宾语,空格处应填不及物动词;

(3)空格前面是名词/代词,后面是副词/介词,空格处应填入不及物动词,与副词/介词构成固定搭配;

(4)空格前面是名词/代词,后面是形容词,空格处应填入系动词或be动词;

(1)空格后面为名词,空格处应填入形容词;

(2)空格前面是副词,空格处应填入形容词;

(1)空格前面或者后面为动词,空格处应填入副词;

(1)并列关系:and, or, as well as 等

(2)对比或转折关系:but, however, on the contrary, rather than 等

(3)比较关系:as ... as, like, similarly等

(4)因果关系:because, for, since, as a result of, therefore, thus 等

(5)举例关系:for example, for instance, such as, and so on 等

(6)递进关系:what’s more, moreover, in addition 等

1. Even the charisma and technical prowess of two fine actors are not ________the task of fully invigorating a gray domestic drama with a tired tale to tell.

A:required for

B:interested in

C:prepared for

D:adequate to

E:inferior to

2.The subjects who are engaged in multi-tasks often ______ deterioration in their performance over time, and therefore the need to concentrate can apparently enhance long-term efficiency.

A:elicited

B:anticipated

C:noticed

D:displayed

E:evaded

3.For some time now, ______ has been presumed not to exist: the cynical conviction that everybody has an angle is considered wisdom.

A:rationality

B:flexibility

C:diffidence

D:disinterestedness

E:insincerity

1. Political advertising may well be the most (i)_________ kind of advertising: political candidates are usually quite (ii)_________, yet their campaign advertisements often hide important differences behind smoke screens of smiles and empty slogans.

Blank (I) Blank (II)

A:polemical D:interchangeable

B:effective E:dissimilar

C:deceptive F:vocal

Blank (I) Blank (II)

A:distribute D:questionable

B:consult E:strong

C:retain F:circumstantial

3. The guilty-pleasure of the play lies in its invitation for us to identify with its characters—attractive, articulate young women and young men (i)_____ behavior that, from the outside, may look more than a little (ii)_____: though the actions are initially repugnant, we cannot help but share the point of the view of the characters committing them.

Blank (I) Blank (II)

A:lament D:trivial

B:execrate E:altruistic

C:rationalize F:monstrous

先做第二空:空格缺少一个形容词表示behavior的特点,看冒号后,action是behavior的同义替换,所以空格就是repugnant的替换,more than a little=very(f);第一空缺少动词,针对的是对behavior特点(repugnant)的态度,看到后半句的强词share表明是正面的态度(c),答案是c,f。

This (ii)______is (iii)______by the fact that many signals seem to shift in meaning according to the context in which they are produced and the developmental stage of the individuals producing them.

Blank (I) Blank (II) Blank (III)

A:precise D:problem G:augmented

B:rich E:opportunity H:ameliorated

C:straightforward F:oversight I:anticipated

2. That today’s students of American culture tend to (i) _____ classical music is understandable. In our own time, America’s musical high culture has degenerated into a formulaic entertainment divorced from the contemporary moment. Thus, to miss out on what our orchestras are up to is not to (ii) _____ much. In the late Gilded Age, however, music was widely esteemed as the “queen of the arts.” Classical music was in its American heyday, (iii) _____ the culture at large.

Blank (I) Blank (II) Blank (III)

A:promote D:sacrifice G:antagonistic toward

B:reinterpret E:appreciate H:generally rejected by

C:ignore F:malign I:centrally embedded in

第二空:miss out是贬义词,因为是坏事,所以miss out就应该“无所谓”(d),第一空:也是坏事,所以选负向态度(c),答案是c,d,i。

Blank (I) Blank (II) Blank (III)

A:an anomaly D:multifaceted G:distinguished

B:a cinch E:pessimistic H:misapprehended

C:a conjecture F:unsophisticated I:obliterated

答案是a,e,i。

Maiacetus inuus

最后说一说 while,它在本题中,只适合理解为 and / similarly and at the same time that,如果你按以前 while 引导对比或让步关系的套路去理解,很可能就被误导了。

1. in favor of

2. reconcile

3. compensate for/make up for

4. take place of/replace with

双重否定句与肯定句的重复:it’swrong/foolish/presumptuous to say that…

A—B;B—by A, 或者by有以下替代:is theresult/outgrowth/product of。

非A—非B; B—by A。如果出现A—B;B—A结构,定是二者之一。

另外有compare with,in contrast to, beyond.

差级比较:in comparison with, relatively, by comparison, (less adj., more adj.

to do sth./ in order to do sth. / attempt to do
