一、英语自我概念与英语口语自我概念

在我国, 有学者将英语自我概念称为英语学习自我概念。英语自我学习概念是学业自我概念中的一个重要组成部分, 主要是对个人英语语言综合能力的一种自我描述。英语学习涉及到多种语言技能, 而学习者在学习的过程中会表现出不同的差异, 例如, 有的学习者擅长听力, 有的则在口语上较为擅长, 有的则是写作较为擅长等。而学习者在技能学习上所出现的差异, 也会在他们的英语自我概念上得到体现。英语自我概念下的各种具体的自我概念, 它们之间相互作用、相互依存, 任何一方出现变化都会对其他各方面产生影响。

Lau、Young、Jin与Low通过验证性因子分析, 发现了在英语自我概念结构中所存在的四个独立的结构, 分别是英语听力自我概念、英语口语自我概念、英语阅读自我概念、英语写作自我概念。在这些相互独立的自我概念中却又存在着相互影响、相互作用的关系, 这些自我概念与英语自我概念一起对一个人的英语各方面能力进行综合的评价。

二、非英语专业大学英语口语水平现状

(一) 传统英语教学模式阻碍非英语专业学生口语水平提高

在我国的大部分高校中, 非英语专业的英语教学模式几乎都没有差别。基本都是通过公开课的形式来开展英语教学, 缺乏对学生英语自我概念的研究与评价, 同时也缺乏对教师教学水平的科学评价标准, 直接导致了教师与学生去对教与学的效果改善的方法的探索缺乏积极性。在实际的教与学中, 因为课时进度、内容都安排得非常满, 直接导致了学生缺乏进行英语口语训练的机会, 同时也缺少一个练好英语口语学习的外部环境。特别是非英语专业的大学生, 他在平时的学习与生活中本就缺少进行英语口语锻炼的机会, 这种情况下他们所形成的口语自我概念会变得较为消极, 并会成为其英语水平提高的重要障碍, 这就会导致他们即使花费了很多的时间与精力去进行口语训练, 也难以取得理想效果。

(二) 课堂教学模式过于陈旧, 难以形成积极英语口语自我概念

非英语专业开展英语教学的过程中, 很多都是采用的填鸭式的教学模式, 在课堂上学生只能够对大量的英语知识进行被动地接受, 虽然其中有着非常丰富的内容, 但是其中却基本没有进行口语训练的时间以及学生开展口语练习的环境。同时, 学生之间很多都很难在日常交流的过程中运用英语, 也就谈不上利用日常交流来对自己的口语进行锻炼。在学校中, 非英语专业的学生也很少主动去参加学习交流的英语角一类的场所。在这样的情况下, 学生的英语口语学习就会缺乏及时的复习与口头训练, 很多时候都表现出学得快、忘得快。学生的英语口语自我概念中的反映评价与社会比较都难以有效地进行构建, 同时自我概念中的自我评价也会变得较为消极, 这样很难有效地促进学生英语口语水平的提升。

(三) 非英语专业的学生需要重视对英语口语的学习方法的选择

无论是英语专业的学生, 还是非英语专业的学生, 在英语学习与口语练习的过程中, 方法都非常重要。科学的、适合学生自身的学习方法, 不仅仅可以帮助他们改善学习效果, 还能够帮助学生获得良好的自我评价, 对其英语口语自我概念进行改善, 使得其能够获得良好的英语口语兴趣, 使学生的口语练习能够获得事半功倍的效果。相反, 如果学生所选择的学习方法不适合其自身的实际情况, 那么, 不仅仅是难以提升口语的水平, 反而还会对学生使用英语口语的兴趣产生负面影响, 降低自我评价, 使其英语口语的学习斗志被磨灭, 甚至最后放弃口语。

三、构建良好英语口语自我概念, 改善学生英语口语水平

(一) 以良好反映评价增强学生口语练习自信心

在自我概念中, 反映评价是一项重要的内容, 是学生从其他人那里所获得的和自己相关的各种信息。在英语口语自我概念中, 反映评价则是指学生从其他人那里获取的和自己的英语口语相关的各种信息。很多非英语专业的学生, 在英语口语练习上都没有自信。当学生能从他人那里得到对其英语口语的肯定的评价, 那么, 学生就会有一个良好的英语口语自我概念。如果反映评价过于消极, 导致学生产生消极的自我评价, 并导致自信心的流失。因此, 作为教师, 无论在何时都应该对学生进行正面积极的评价, 让他们能够觉得他们行, 同时还需要为学生营造一个良好、积极的外部评论环境, 这样可以让学生拥有良好的英语自我概念, 使他们有良好的练习与使用英语口语的自信心。

(二) 以良好的社会比较帮助学生树立正确的英语口语水平观

社会比较是自我概念发展与充实的重要途径。社会比较主要就是指在生活、工作与学习过程中通过和他人的比较来对自身进行衡量。通过社会比较, 可以对学生的英语口语自我概念进行发展, 让学生对自己的英语口语水平进行一定的衡量, 进而可以更好的知道自身英语的实际口语水平。对于这种社会比较, 如果学生不能够对社会比较的结果进行正确的认识, 那么很容易使得其兴趣与积极性受到打击, 不能够对自身的英语口语水平进行正确的认识。为此, 需要让学生充分地认识到, 在运用英语口语进行交流的过程中, 最为重要的是将自己所需要表述的意思进行正确的表达, 然后才是在这个基础上注重发音等。这样可以让学生对社会比较的结果进行正确的看待, 进而会逐步树立起正确的英语口语水平观。

(三) 利用成功经历改善学生英语口语自我感觉

自我感觉在自我概念中是非常重要的组成部分。在学生年少的时候, 他们对于自己的认识基本是来自于他人对自己的反映。然而, 当学生随着年龄的增长, 到他们进入大学校园时, 他们已经形成了自己的思想, 能够独立看待问题, 因此也就会对自己产生一定的看法与认识, 而这就是其自我感觉。学生对于自己的英语口语水平的自我感觉则是其英语口语自我概念中的重要组成成分, 影响较为深远。如果学生能够积累英语口语的成功经历, 那么其对英语口语的自我感觉就会较好, 所形成的英语口语自我概念就会得到改善, 进而促使学生在现有的基础上对英语口语水平进行改进。例如, 当非英语专业的学生与一位外国友人进行英语口语的交流, 并且从其中获得了较为愉悦的感觉, 能够在交流的过程中理解对方表达的内容与表述清楚自己想要表达的内容, 就会产生良好的自我感觉, 进而使得其英语口语自我概念得到改进。这样, 学生就会对英语口语变得更有兴趣、更有自信, 并会产生持续提高英语口语水平的动力。

总之, 对于英语口语自我概念, 我们必须给予高度的重视。英语的学习并不是为了让学生能做题、能写英语作文就可以了, 而是要让学生学会通过英语进行交流, 因此, 英语口语水平就显得较为重要。对学生英语口语水平产生影响并不仅仅是各种课堂因素, 对于非英语专业的学生来讲, 很多时候英语口语自我概念都会对其能否进行积极的英语口语练习产生促进或者阻碍的作用。所以, 要改善学生的英语口语水平, 需要帮助学生树立积极的英语口语自我概念。

在口语表达中, 说话者总是不断地监控自己的言语行为, 即时核查自己的言语是否准确表达想要表达的意思。如果发现有错或表达不够恰当, 就会主动进行纠正, 这就叫做自发式修正 (self-initiated self-repair) 或简称自我修正。近年来, 自我修正策略逐渐成为话语研究和自然语言处理的一个重要课题。

随着中国经济的腾飞, 世界各地都出现了汉语热。新疆凭借着与中亚国家毗邻的地缘优势, 吸引了大批中亚留学生来新疆学习汉语。本文采用问卷调查和访谈的方式了解中亚留学生的自我修正策略意识, 比较初级、中级和高级学生对修正策略的认识差异, 帮助汉语教师正确处理学生的言语表达错误, 提高学生学习汉语的积极性。

二、研究设计

本研究探讨不同汉语水平的中亚留学生对自我修正策略的认识差异, 并对对外汉语口语教学和汉语口语学习研究提出一些建议。

1.研究对象。本文调查对象是新疆师范大学中亚留学生, 总人数为60人 (初级、中级、高级各20人) 。95%初级水平的留学生来中国前未学习过汉语, 目前是学习汉语的第一个学期, 会简单的汉语;中级水平的留学生学习汉语的时间约2年;高级水平的留学生学习汉语的时间为3年及以上。

2.问卷设计。问卷在参照他人研究成果的基础上, 对原问卷作了一些筛选, 总共9道题。考虑到初级水平的留学生的汉语水平有限, 根据他们的语言背景, 问卷附有俄文翻译版。

3.数据收集。问卷在课堂上发给学生填写, 笔者指导并当堂收回问卷。问卷发出60份, 回收60份, 有效问卷60份。对有效问卷进行统计分析, 并按照一定比例对相关问题进行了访谈。

三、调查结果与分析

根据本研究所收集的数据, 得出了以下调查结果:

1.关于思维的语言, 最多人选母语和汉语, 第二语言习得者在未熟练掌握第二语言前, 学习者须借助母语的帮助。选择母语进行思考的人数从初级到高级在依次降低, 只选汉语进行思考的人数依次增加。说明随着汉语水平的提高, 学生正慢慢脱离母语的帮助。中亚五国曾经是前苏联的一部分, 俄语在他们国家运用也比较广泛, 所以俄语也成为部分学生学习汉语的媒介语之一。

2.在表达习惯上, 51.7%的学生是一边想一边说, 31.7%的学生在表达之前先想好再说。选择“一边想一边说”的从初级水平到高级水平依次增加, 选择“先想好再说”和“没有思考”的依次降低。初级水平的学生水平有限, 没有准备好不敢随便说, 而中级和高级水平学生的语言水平相对较高, 有足够的时间和注意力可以一边想一边说。

3.30%的学生认为他们经常可以意识到自我修正, 61.7%的学生认为有时能意识到。中高级学生经常意识到自我修正的多, 而初级学生汉语基础薄弱, 他们甚至不能意识到自我修正。

4.对“语言形式”和“语言内容”两方面的选择, 28.3%的学生选择了更注重“语言形式”, 初级学生较多;20%的学生选择了注重“表达内容”, 中高级学生明显比初级学生多;51.7%的学生认为两者都有。高水平的说话者语言知识和语言驾驭能力较强, 很多语言形式已经内化, 自动化的程度较高。

5.最常纠正的错误, 33.3%的学生选择语音, 23.3%的学生选择语法, 23.3%的学生选择词汇, 16.7%的学生选择句型, 3.4%的学生选择语篇。

6.66.7%的学生希望马上改正, 三个水平的学生对待错误的态度上基本一致, 因为这样印象最深刻。学生都是成年人, 学习汉语的动机明确, 因此积极性较高。

7.48.3%的学生认为影响很大, 其中高级学生人数最多, 因为高级学生已能自我表达思想, 他们更关注的是口语的流利性即交际的流畅。

8.63.3%的学生认为自我修正非常有必要, 35%的学生认为有必要, 只有少部分学生认为没有必要。中级学生认为自我修正策略非常有必要的最多, 这些学生刚度过入门阶段, 所学的语法和词汇还未能自如运用, 因此自我修正策略对他们的意义最大。初级学生因水平低, 自我监控的能力较低, 而高级学生关注更多的是表达内容以及流利性, 因此他们对自我修正策略的预期较弱。

9.关于谁的纠正对口语的提高帮助最大, 36.7%的学生选择教师, 40%的学生选择自己, 8.3%的学生选择同学, 因为新疆师范大学的宿舍特殊性, 留学生和研究生交流较便利, 有15%的学生喜欢由研究生指出他们的错误。

四、结论

该项研究得出下列几点结论和启示:

1.留学生要表达的内容一般都经过汉语和母语两种语言的交替思考与选择, 口语思维不同程度地受母语迁移的影响。口语教学不能仅仅重视学生口头表达的结果, 而更应了解口语表达的认知过程。

2.学生整体的自我修正意识较强, 汉语水平的高低对学生的自我意识强弱有影响。学生认为自我修正对提高语言水平有帮助, 但汉语水平的高低影响着自我修正策略的使用, 初级学生受所学汉语知识的限制, 在错误发生的时候, 他们不能察觉, 不能很好地进行自我修正。而中高级学生的知识积累到一定的程度, 并形成了一定的语感, 他们在交流中可以较好地对自身的错误进行修正。

3.大部分学生认为自我修正很有必要, 也很有帮助, 中高级学生自主性较高。在回访中, 很多留学生表示, 在自我修正的过程中, 他们对已学的知识可以进行一个回顾, 可以加深自己对所学知识的印象。教师可以在初级阶段就指导学生养成良好的自我修正习惯, 提高学生学习的积极性和主动性。

4.在自我修正中, 语篇的修正最少, 学生语篇意识比较薄弱。长期以来, 对外汉语教学的重点一直都放在培养学生的语言能力上, 如对语音、词汇、语法的认知能力, 教会学生如何说正确的句子, 特别是在初级阶段的教学中, 缺乏对学生语篇意识的培养, 所以学生即使遇到错误也不能进行自我修正。培养学生的语篇意识对学生学习汉语有重要的意义, 教师应根据不同汉语水平学生的表现, 分层、分阶段培养学生的语篇能力。

如何有效地组织、鼓励学生进行自我修正以提高学生学习的主动性和积极性是有重要的现实意义的。培养学生的自我修正意识和自我反思的能力, 可以使学生形成良好的学习习惯和思维习惯, 教师也能在学生的自我修正中发现问题, 引导学生在语言形式和内容上正确分配注意力, 提高语言的敏锐性, 最终达到避免错误、提高口语水平的目的。

摘要:本文调查了一部分新疆中亚留学生自我修正意识的状况, 比较初级、中级和高级学生对修正策略的认识差异, 帮助中亚留学生发现他们的语言知识和实际表达的差距, 为对外汉语教师正确处理学生的言语表达错误和提高学生的积极性提供一定的依据。

在知识和科技大爆炸, 经济、文化和生活日趋全球化的时代, 跨文化交际日益频繁, 英语口语在跨文化交际中占有重要的地位。然而, 当今大学生的英语口语水平普遍较差, 在口语、词汇、语音、语调等方面存在诸多问题。因此, 大学生投入大量时间, 训练提高英语口语水平已经势在必行。

二、大学生练习口语的方法

1. 精挑细选练习材料。

练习材料是未来语言的蓝本, 其选择至关重要。材料可以是小说、诗歌、散文、传记、歌词等任何你喜欢的语言形式。通常新概念的文章备受大学生的青睐, 从第一册到第四册, 层次分明, 语言地道, 富有美感, 篇篇经典, 而且每篇文章都有录音版本, 有英式发音和美式发音两种版本, 满足了大学生的不同需求。英文小说床头灯系列也是练习口语的好材料。近百本的英文小说几乎涵盖了英国社会生活的各个方面, 多样化的表达方式, 优美地道的语言, 扣人心弦的故事情节都引人入胜。

2. 英语口语模仿训练。

英语口语模仿训练是提高英语口语水平的有效途径。模仿语音要由慢速到快速、由夸张到自然、由逐个单词读准再到逐个句子读顺。模仿时要一板一眼, 口形要正确, 放慢速度, 以便把音发到位, 待把音发准了以后, 再加快速度, 用正常语速反复多说几遍, 直到不用过多思考就能用正常语速把句子轻松地说出来。然后, 通过典型的对话素材训练升降调, 连读, 同化等语音技巧, 提高英语口语的熟练程度和流利程度, 说出有“英语味”的英语。

听英语小故事、小短文, 然后复述出来, 可以显著地提高听说能力。刚开始练习时, 因语言表达能力、表达技巧等方面的不足, 往往复述接近于背诵, 但在基础逐渐扎实以后, 就能灵活运用了。在保证语言正确的前提下, 复述可越来越灵活, 如改变句子结构、变换表达方式、替换一些较难或较生僻的词汇、概括文章大意等。复述的内容也要精心选择。一般来说, 所选资料的内容要具体生动, 有明确的情节, 生词量不要太大, 如知识性、故事性较强的小短文。复述表面上看起来慢, 实际上对英语综合能力的培养很有帮助。如果时间较充足, 就可以在口头复述的基础上, 再用笔头复述一下, 这样可以提高对语言的掌握程度, 提高书面表达能力。

4. 英语口译训练。

口译英汉对照的小说或其他读物是一种非常有效的方法。我们先读汉语部分, 然后逐句直接口译成英文, 完成一小段后, 去对比相应的英文部分。这样, 马上就可以发现口译中存在的错误与不足, 以便及时改正。刚开始选择口译法进行英语口语训练时, 在选材上先尽量选择较简单的英语读物, 生词量控制在20%以内。推荐的读物有:《新东方英语》、《英语世界》、《英语文摘》、英语小说书虫系列、英文小说床头灯系列等。

5. 到英语角练习。

各大高校都有练习英语口语的英语角, 去英语角对话也是一个好方法。去英语角的主要目的不是学习新的语法和词汇, 而是充分展示自己, 建立起说英语的信心, 锻炼自己与不同的人说英语的胆量和能力。去英语角之前要做好充分准备, 找好自己想要练习的话题, 背诵大量的材料, 以便有话可说。对话的过程中要积极大胆地说, 不怕犯错, 不怕“丢脸”。

6. 了解禁忌语, 培养英语思维模式。

轻松愉快的交谈需要以话题所产生的兴趣作保障。为了保证会话的顺利进行, 必须了解交谈中的一些禁忌语。如与陌生女性交谈时切莫问其年龄、收入、家庭住址、电话号码等个人隐私。每一种语言都包含该民族丰富的文化内涵和特定的思维模式。对英语国家的文化背景知识了解得越清楚越透彻, 在同英美人士交流时, 就越能相互认同和了解。所以, 在学习口语时, 不仅要尽可能多地掌握语言知识, 补充大量的口语词汇和句型, 还要深刻挖掘语言背后的文化内涵和思维模式。这样, 用英语交流起来才会更顺畅。

三、结语

本文从大学生英语水平的现状出发, 探讨了几种卓有成效的练习英语口语的方法。然而, 口语练习是一个循序渐进、日积月累的过程, 需要大学生持之以恒, 坚持不懈地练习才能由量变转化为质变, 自然流利地说出有“英语味”的地道英语。

一、提高教师自身业务素质, 用流利优美的口语吸引学生

在英语课堂上, 学生接触最多的就是教师的语言。学生是通过教师的语言来感知、学习英语的。如果一位教师的语言优美动听, 有英语味儿, 就很容易感染、吸引学生, 使学生爱上英语。因此, 我重温英语音标和课堂用语, 力求使自己的语音语调准确无误。接着, 我找来以前背诵过的大学生英语演讲的文章重新练习背诵, 重新找到说英语的感觉。我还给自己定了一个目标:每天都要听一段英语演讲或广播。不仅如此, 我在每节课的课前都精心设计自己的语言, 使自己的语言亲切自然, 并注意呵护学生说英语的信心。慢慢地, 我发现这个班的学生敢于开口说英语了, 课堂教学顺利了很多。学生开始喜欢英语了。

二、单词教学词不离句, 提高学生的语言综合运用能力, 加深学生的印象

要想使学生对英语保持持久的兴趣, 那就要让学生学有所得。于是我力求让每个学生每节课都有收获。英语单词的识记过程枯燥乏味, 在采用了游戏歌曲、歌谣等各种办法之后, 我发现用新单词说句子的方法是最有效的, 类似小学语文中的造句。可别小看这个传统的办法。在教学农村城市景物的单词时, 我让学生用这些单词说句子, 每个人都说, 学生轻而易举地记住了这些单词, 在检查时几乎全班通过。我心想:这个办法真好, 学生既记住了单词, 又提高了语言运用能力, 学生的单词运用能力更准确了。在以后的单词教学中, 我更加注重新授单词与相关句型的联系, 拓展学生的语言运用能力, 使学生边学边交流。例如, 小学英语每个单元的Let’s learn部分都有与新单词相联系的句型, 以前我认为学生只会读单词和句子就可以了, 现在我要求学生用这些句子进行交流, 学生自然对所学内容加深了印象, 而且课堂气氛活跃, 学习兴趣浓厚。看着学生说英语的骄傲模样, 我心里别提多开心了。

小学英语对话教学是重点也是难点。教学中听有的教师说多读, 将课文读熟就行了, 但这使学生畏惧英语, 认为英语课没有意思。这是一个值得英语教师思考的问题。教学中每次新授Let’s talk时, 我都注意设计情境, 让学生理解语言。比如, 在教学四年级英语第五单元的对话时, 我发挥自己的简笔画优势, 先在黑板上画了一个大大的桌子, 指着简笔画问:“What’s this?”学生感到十分惊奇, 回答“It’s a table.”接着, 我在黑板上画了个盘子, 说:“What’s on the plate?Guess.”之后我慢慢地画盘子上的鱼, 学生很快猜出了答案。我又画了一碗面条, 他们也猜出来了。学生十分兴奋。此时, 我装作吃得非常香的样子说“I like noodles.I like Chinese food.”我出示词条粘在黑板上领读, 练读这个句子, 一会儿指着黑板上的鱼说“Fish is Chinese food too.”接着我又画了汉堡和热狗介绍“These are English food.
