1.英美儿童把生日这一天看做是奇妙的一天。他们把它当做个人的新年来庆祝。在生日这一天,儿童会收到来自家人及朋友的礼物,其中最重要的礼物当属生日蛋糕,同时还有象征儿童年龄的蜡烛。在生日宴会上,蜡烛被点燃后,过生日的人可以许一个愿,然后用一口气吹灭所有的蜡烛,接着大家一起唱那首著名的歌曲“HappyBirthdaytoyou”。除了大小各异的礼物之外,他们通常还会得到一顶“生日帽”,并在聚会期间一直戴着它。在聚会上,他们做游戏、吃蛋糕和冰淇淋,玩得十分开心。

2.英美人的生日礼物多式多样,礼品的贵重与否、价格多少不是最主要的。对于亲朋好友送来的礼物,他们喜欢当面打开,拿到礼物时往往说一些感谢和赞美的话,如:Thankyou.但在中国,人们一般不会当面打开礼物,而是要等客人离开后才会打开。不过,这种习惯正在逐渐改变。

8.在英语中元音特别响亮,一般来说,元音构成音节;辅音不响亮,不能构成音节。英语的词有一个音节的,有二、三、四个音节的,还有五、六、七、八个音节的。一个音节的叫做单音节,两个音节的叫做双音节,三个音节以上的叫做多音节。每个词一般只有一个重读音节,单音节的词则为重读。在重读音节中,元音字母a,e,i,o,u的读法,主要有以下两种情况:

开音节:开音节有两种,一种叫做绝对开音节,即在元音字母后面没有辅音字母,例如:go,we,be,he。另一种叫做相对开音节,即在单个元音字母后面有一个辅音字母之外,再加一个不发音的字母e构成的音节,如:cake,make,bike,name等。此时,元音字母a,e,i,o,u都读它们字母表的音名。

闭音节:单个元音字母后面有辅音字母(r除外)时,这个元音字母构成的音节叫做闭音节,例如:bag,not,hen,put等。在重读闭音节中,元音字母a读做//,e读做/e/,i读做/I/,o读做/D/,u读做//或//。

.英美人对能力的自我表现和中国人很不一样。这是由英美人喜用赞美语,而中国人喜用自谦语的文化现象造成的。英美人对自己的能力始终非常自信,这常常体现在争取职位、竞选、求学申请等场合中,就连自我宣传时他们的表达语气和内容都充满了自信。总之,英美人总是极力推销自己,绝对不会让自己的能力打折扣。

2.can是情态动词,表示“能力”,其后跟原形动词。

3.canyourideabike?一句中的can既指一时的可能,也指长期的能力。在疑问句中可将情态动词置于句首,后接句子的主语和主要谓语动词。其否定形式由can加not构成。否定式的书面形式有三种:cannot,can’t和cannot。请注意它们的读音:cannot的重读音节在not;can’t是cannot的缩写形式,作为一个单词,必须重读;cannot也是作为一个单词,但它的重读音节在第二个音节。

.中西方的饮食方式有很大不同,在中国民间有句俗话:“民以食为天,食以味为先。”中国人常为自己的饮食文化感到自豪。在中国,任何一场宴席,不管是什么目的,一般都只会有一种形式,就是大家团团围坐,共享一席。人们相互敬酒,相互让菜、劝菜,在美味的食物面前,体现了人们之间相互尊重、礼让的美德。中国人平时的普通宴请也少不了几菜几汤。而英美人除了圣诞节和感恩节等重大节日外,平时请客,花样很少。英美人请客比较正规的菜谱是:第一道为开胃食品,可以是汤、果汁或色拉;第二道为主食,可以是一种肉或鱼,配以土豆、蔬菜、调味品等;第三道为甜食,可以是冰淇淋、水果馅饼或奶油蛋糕。他们平时的一日三餐更是简单,其饮食主要包括鱼、肉、面包、蛋糕、汉堡包、蛋、蔬菜、水果及饮料等。

2.food意为“食物”(相对于饮料而言)或“食品”(通常作物质名词,并且用单数,不加不定冠词),如:foodanddrink(食物和饮料)(注意:不说drinkandfood)。作为食物种类,food作可数名词,如:toomanysweetfoods。

3.sweet作形容词,意为“甜的”。它还可以作名词,作“糖果”解。

4.hamburger可指“汉堡牛肉饼”,也可指“汉堡包”,即面包加牛肉,又称burger,是可数名词。

5.noodle意为“面条”,通常加s作复数用。

6.rice是不可数名词,表示“米”、“饭”、“稻子”。用米做成的糕饼是ricecake。在欧美,为祝贺蜜月旅行的出发,有向新郎、新娘掷米的风俗。

7.cake具有可数和不可数两种特性:作为成品也就是小型的一个一个的蛋糕时,是可数名词,如,acake,twocakes;但如果是整个的大块的,需切开分食的cake,一般看作不可数名词,如,apieceofcake,twopiecesofcake。apieceofcake不单解释为“一块蛋糕”,还可解释为“小菜一碟”,形容一件很容易做的事。

9.like意为“喜欢”“、喜爱”,其否定形式为don’tlike,是donotlike的缩写。

0.复数变化规律和读音:英语中的名词,可以计数的,称为可数名词;不能计数的,称为不可数名词。可数名词又有单数和复数两种形式。复数形式通常是在单数形式后加词尾s或es构成,其规则如下:

(1)一般情况下加s,如:cake—cakes,apple—apples,banana—bananas,egg—eggs,melon—melons,grape—grapes等。s加在清辅音后读/s/,加在浊辅音或元音后读/z/。

(2)在以s,sh,ch,x结尾的词后加es,如:box—boxes,class—classes,watch—watches,peach—peaches,bus—buses,其中es读/Iz/。

(3)在以o结尾的名词后,多数在词尾加es,少数加s,如:potato—potatoes,hero—heroes,photo—photos,piano—pianos,radio—radios,其中es和s均读/z/。

(4)在以“辅音字母+y”结尾的词后,变y为i,再加es,如:city—cities,party—parties,其中es读/z/。

(5)在以f或fe结尾的词后变f或fe为v,再加es,如:leaf—leaves,life—lives,其中ves读/vz/。

(6)有一些名词的复数是通过改变内部元音来实现,如:man—men,woman—women,foot—feet,tooth—teeth等。
